Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

QF have just refunded me the difference between the EK F and the QF J ticket - I will be chasing the ORC as well (double s/c).

I spoke to QF today, went from First to discount Business, refund of approx. $1000.

I was advised that I could attempt to chase the normal first class status credits but as it wasn't an on day disruption, the double s/c would only credit at the class you travelled in on the day.
Needless to say I fired off an email requesting an ORC for the entire route at double s/c as I would've still travelled First had it not be cancelled.

Re: Emirates Cans A380 SYD-AKL

I have 6 seats booked on EK418 Syd/Akl in January on J rewards.
When I look on the Qantas site to see if there is still any availability on the A380 from either Mel or Bne, the site does not have any EK flights listed.
Guess I am going to have to call QF and see if I can have the booking changed to ex Mel or Bne instead of the current Syd as someone has done up stream.

I don't think that will eligible for a reroute but I could be wrong.
I'd regard the QF A330 J suites (if that's what they have booked you on) as superior to EK J.

Re: Emirates Cans A380 SYD-AKL

It took quite a while to grow on me but I too am now a fan of the refurbed A330 suites. The EK A380 suites have better storage and leg-rest (for me), but everything else on QF's hard product is better (screen, table, reading lights, seat positions). You do lose the bar, better quality spirits, larger bathrooms, and chance of an upgrade to F though! First world problems.

I have been on QF A330 suites, (syd/per/syd) and agree they are nice.
The kids (well 3 of the adults...) have not been on an A380 so for them the "bar" and size of aircraft is a thing of interest. All I can do is ask.

Re: Emirates Cans A380 SYD-AKL

While the QF A330 J seat is good, imo EK's A380 J offering still bests it in terms of overall cabin amenity.

Fair enough, I had not factored in the bar novelty.
I think you will have a hard time forcing that through with QF though given that it will require EK to open up J Awards for them.

Re: Emirates Cans A380 SYD-AKL

The bar on board the EK 380 does have a wow factor, maybe even though just for 1/2/3 times and after that, to most, its
run of the mill, but being able to sit and have a snack from the serve yourself and ask for a drink, its worth it.

Family and I took EK across the ditch yesterday. We had booked EK for the A380, if QF B737 were the only option it's fair to say we would have travelled elsewhere.

Yesterday's flight 418 from SYD was about 40% in Y and about 30% in J. I could understand why EK are getting out of the route.

I called QF this morning, they are telling me no award availability out of Mel or Bne. OK fair enough, {she did offer to cancel my reservation with no penalties} will stay with original booking.
My next question...... I have never seen 6 J award seats on QF - another reason for booking EK. Can QF do anything NOT to honour my booking?
I understand the ratio of J seats on A380 Vs A300 and they will not be happy to see 6 seats go for free, but does anyone know the legalities or have experience with this? {wanting to be prepared}

If the bookings were in First, you'd have have that option.

Here is the QF commercial Policy on this:

Commercial Policies

...

All passengers booked to travel between Sydney and Auckland, between Dubai and Auckland, and between Bangkok and Auckland may, without fee:

Rebook/Reroute using an alternate Qantas service with a 'QF' flight number
operated by Qantas within 24 hours of the original ticketed flight.

For ticketed First Class bookings, passengers may, without fee:

Reroute via BNEAKL or MELAKL (travel on QF sectors will be in Business if there
is no First Cabin offered), or
Refund if there are no suitable options <snip>

You had the option of rerouting via MEL/BNE - was that not offered? (See previous Post.)

Re: a minor drama....QF codeshare with EK to AKL

Serfty - do those rules apply to Award bookings?

For customers on Frequent Flyer Reward Tickets

Passengers who are travelling on Qantas Points Plus Pay tickets are entitled to the same options and conditions as listed above.

Passengers who are travelling on Qantas & Partner Classic Flight Reward tickets are entitled to the same options and conditions as listed above provided any travel rebooked or rerouted is made on an eligible Qantas Frequent Flyer Partner Airline and any travel booked on a partner airline is subject to reward seat availability.

I think the return to SYD load factors are higher, at least in Y.

For those attempting to get ORC for the downgrade from First to Business after you have accepted a refund of fare difference and being rebooked.
All I can say is good luck as my experience was only credit for the class rebooked and flown as since you accepted a refund and rebooking you have essentially agreed and bought a new ticket for that sector. This stopped me from requalifying for Gold but was comped it due to averages.

The reroute via MEL/BNE policy is for First Class bookings only.

For rewards, the award fare class for First needs to be available.

For other than award bookings, a First seat simply needs to be available.
