When we redeem a QF international claasic award ticket we pay the taxes that incl overseas airport taxes etc which is calculated in foreign currency and converted to AUD. This is linked to the days exchange rate with that country. Does anyone know if the rate of exchange is

  • based on the previous days exchange rate?
  • at what time of day does this rate gets updated eg midnite Syd time or 10 am Syd time?

Thanks

it is updated weekly on a Tuesday from the official rates published in the AFR . It is known as the IATA BSR

a few years ago when the AUD dropped very quickly over a very short period of time you could still avail yourself of the 'old' rate until the next tuesday. I remember saving quite a bit of cash on some ticket because of it.

I thought it was updated Monthly on the 1st of the month. Has it changed anytime recently?

IATA BSR (Bankers Settlement Rate) is used for settlement of transactions like MCOs etc, for fare calculation purposes the IATA ROE is used which is in fact a monthly update.
IATA - IATA Rates of Exchange (IROE)

I think we are talking about different things

QF use Amadeus and the BSR used to converte TAX that are not in AUD to AUD ( ie a journey that commences outside AU) is updated weekly on a TUE

Fares are filed in NUC - The ROE is used to convert to AUD . This is updated between every 1-3 months ( depending on if the currency fluctuates)

Then there is the IROE that is used for ICH ( IATA Clearing House) for interline settlements at month end by airlines/ freight companies
