A precursor to a reduction in fuel fines, perhaps? Rasise the fares, lower the fuel fines a couple of weeks later, big announcement "Qantas reduces fuel surcharges" (neglects to mention that overall cost is exactly the same).

Or am I being TOO cynical here.....
Nope, it's exacterly wut I was thinking! :-|

Or when they set an expiry date on my QF Lifetime Gold status  .

So, does a lifetime Gold membership card have an expiry date printed on it?

Its when you find out they have taken out a high value one year term life insurance on you that you have reason to worry!

Perhaps not. Perhaps they'll send u a new card each year, except that rather than recognising your loyalty, they will congratulate you on your longevity

Especially when it co-incides with the expiry date on the card and a flight that you are to take:shock: ....not on QF as they would like to maintain the pseudo-no fatalities reputation. (If you count predecessor airline names).

I chekced the SYD-PER fares last week before the increase took effect. Here is the difference:

Pre-increase:
SYD-PER: Full Economy $ 872.00
SYD-PER: Business Cls $1,500.00

Post-increase:
SYD-PER: Full Economy $ 900.00
SYD-PER: Business Cls $1,570.00

That's a 3.21% increase for full economy and 4.67% increase for business class.

I must say that the thought of a $3,140 fare to travel SYD-PER-SYD is really getting ludicrous. A "D" class fare for SYD-SIN/return isn't much more and the QF international business class service is a good cut above the domestic service. We seriously need some business class competition in this country. :(

I'd like to see some foreign airlines given rights to fly into SYD and MEL via PER and carry domestic pax.

Agree with you on this point. Ozjet tried but did not have the support.

I wouldn't mind travelling business class occassionally but I just cannot justify it at current airfares!

That is a complete Rip-Off to Perth. I suppose Qantas is a virtual monopoly and can get what they want though on routes like that.

Keep in mind that the average punter will have that return fare reduced by say $10-$20 later this week when Qantas "adjusts" their fuel surcharges.

Hmmm.

Hahahaa. Poor Qantas. They can't win can they? :D I'm glad the media is savvy as to their possible intentions!

Qantas lifts prices, cuts fuel surcharge | Aviation | The Australian

"QANTAS yesterday denied that a 3 per cent average increase in domestic ticket prices was designed to offset a planned reduction in fuel surcharges.

The airline confirmed it was reviewing its unpopular fuel surcharge after other carriers, including main rival Singapore Airlines, announced cuts in the wake of falling fuel prices. "

When will DJ announce their fuel fines are coming down as well? I heard QF are reducing theirs later this week?

Don't hold your breath for this one to happen. DJ's fuel surcharges have remained he same since April 2005! QF has had a few 'adjustments' in that timeframe.

I think DJ will make a token change, just so that they can get some good press releases out to the media at the same time that Qantas does. Nobody wants the perception of being left behind!
