I am doing AKL - SYD on a 17.5 year old A330.

QF AVG fleet age is 13.6 years compared to 6 for EK, 5 for QR, even cashless TG has age of 7 years.

The AKL lounge is like 20 years old and a shocker.

The QF experience is really lacking. How has AJ gotten away with this aging fleet.

Qantas aim for 20-25 years out of their aircraft, which is in part based on depreciation allowances in Australia.

Having said that, there are orders in place to replace the 737 fleet. They have also been talking to Airbus/Boeing about what will replace the A330s.

QF seem to be running the A330-300 on the SYD / AKL route.

Despite being an older aircraft, I'd gladly fly this in either Y or J. The product even in Y is very competitive, with both both cabins essentially featuring QF's latest product. I think the Y hard product experience is superior on QF's A333's in comparison to CX, TG or MH's A330's.
QF's 200's aren't nearly quite as nice in Economy though, particularly the ones with no IFE screen.

I'm confident enough in QF's maintenance of the aircraft not to worry about a few years difference in age.
