Hi,

I want to report some good news about QF on this forum, as of lately there has been a lot of gloom.
Before I start some people say you should not report on this forum if QF provide service above and beyond but I am always happy to share both good and not so good experiences, in this case it is a good news story from QF.

Today I was checking QF loadings on expert flyer and noticed BKK-SYD loadings in F class were good (meaning there were still at least 8 seats left based on EF), I had a J award booking for BKK-SYD on the day the loads looked good. I then rang the QF Platinum premium desk and asked if there were any F seats available on my flight and if yes, could I change my booking to fly F please. She replied that no F seats were showing as available as award seats but the loadings were low and she would ask if one seat could be made available. She returned to say congratulations a seat has been made available and she would change my booking. Thank you QF for making my day.

I checked my account 5 hours later and my booking shows as First but no extra points have been deducted. Once again if this holds then thank you very much QF. I have been moved from J to F for no extra points, it could have cost another 35000 pts.

What I want to say is that this is why I fly qanats, that and also the fact their safety record is excellent and I am a loyal Australian. Qantas, you will continue to get my spend of about 100K each year based on this service.
Has anyone else experienced asking for a J to F change of award flight and never getting charged the points?

Note, that I fly extensively each year, all with QF, JQ and 3K so have no real experience with other airlines the past few years and quite frankly do not need to worry while QF provides moments above and beyond what is expected.

Nah, both good and bad reports are welcome.

I think you've used the unwritten 'Plat release of Award Seats' offer from Qantas. Basically a WP can call up and request that yield management release seats for Awards. It's up to them, but sometimes it happens when loads are low. A lot of speculation has happened recently that it will disappear with "Anyseat awards", but obviously hasn't disappeared yet.

I would have expected a small points deduction (eg 5000 points for the change in booking), but that might have been waived. As you booked J one way and F the other, the points would probably have been the same (Really, you should have looked at a J booking one way, and an F one back if you couldn't get F both ways and wanted that)

Your story is surprising, but welcome. Good to see Qantas does some things right.

Enjoy your trip!

you're having a nice run there tassie  great work!

it's good to hear that QF are looking after their top tiers as they should!

Having award seats released for WPs is a big draw card for the program IMO!

gee! I wonder how differently the situation would have been handled this week on QF107 SYD-LAX if I was WP? - I was the only one in the upper deck with no seat power and no AVOD for the entire trip!

Did QF compensate you in some way?

Thanks for sharing your good news with us. Most users on this website only write about negative reports, especially with QF.

I have heard a lot of good reports on how well QF look after their top tier members. Like a lot of customer service areas at QF, their premium desk do a wonderful job.

It pays to be a QF Platinum or Gold member.

Enjoy your flight...

I think you've used the unwritten 'Plat release of Award Seats' offer from Qantas . . . A lot of speculation has happened recently that it will disappear with "Anyseat awards", but obviously hasn't disappeared yet.

Hopefully it won't disappear but about three or four weeks ago I asked for this unwritten benefit to be extended to me and was told by the QF phone agent that it was no longer an option since the new redemption system. Fingers crossed this person simply had it wrong.

Hopefully the "ring back and speak to another agent" trick should do the job nicely for you.

i never knew about the unwritten rule. I only rang back and queried as I saw previous posts talk about such things. I just checked my account today and I did indeed get a 5000 revalidation fee deducted from my account, still a small price to pay for the luxury of First.

I must admit my run has been great of late. Lets see if it continues after I sent an email to them asking that the MEL dom intl connections check in staff were trained to apply First tags on my luggage as well as printing out a First BP instead of Business. I know these are petty things to write about but they are privileges they offer WP and so should be provided all the time. It is the little things that count a lot of the time IMO.

I am usually a critic of many things "Qantas" but I also have a "Thank you" story.
This year I was short of a few status credits to retain Gold Status and so I called and asked them if they would gift me Gold Status anyway. To my surprise, they did.

I know this is not uncommon but it was still a nice act.

Perhaps you should follow up? Others have reported receiving vouchers when AVODS haven't worked on flights...

I received $100 when my headphone jack wasn't working on a domestic flight i.e. it was main screen entertainment, not even AVOiD

I also have had good service from QF lately, with a number of op-ups and a $200 voucher as compensation for a significant delay on QF9 out of MEL that caused me to miss my QF5 connection in SIN.

Interestingly, due to the delay I was rerouted through LHR, staying on QF9, and then BA on to TGL. A surprise came when I checked my QFF account and found I was credited the points and SCs for both the QF9 (SIN-LHR) flight that I took, and the QF5 (SIN-FRA) flight that I was originally booked on but did not fly :). So an extra 160 SCs, which would normally be fantastic, but this was in mid July and when my membership year ended 31 July I saw "Expired status credits -3,240", so no real benefit.

In 2000 my wife (QF Gold) was working as a volunteer for the olympica and did not fly at all for a year, Qantas wrote her a letter asking why? She replied saying it is because of the training and commitment to the Olympics, Qantas let her retain her Gold Status. In 2004 my wife again refuse to fly for a year because she had to organise two weddings in my family, again Qantas wrote amd again they let her retain her Gold Status. Apart from a couple of small incidents, I have nothing but praise for the Qantas Customer attitude.

mmm, my AVOD did not work on a AKL-MEL flight about 5 months ago and the CSM gave me a $50 duty free voucher (i never asked for anything but mrs taswegian got a nice present from my next trip) and when I wrote an email about it I got a call and they gave me a $250 Flower Dum restaurant voucher which was very nice (mrs taswegian enjoyed it a lot). I think sometimes there are very good FA's or maybe it was my WP status, I dunno?

I receieved a $300 voucher yesterday for my flight LHR-SYD.

I had received a call back form the Premium CSM after I sent an email - but the voucher was a suprise.

My "advice" was regarding the changing of aircraft config out of LHR a couple of weeks back, when my requested upgrade to Y+ had seen a point deduction... but plane with no Y+ seats (late change). Wasn't expecting anything, just suggested a phone call to suggest a J upgrade might be an option for the future.

The AVOD for my seat was not working on a SIN-MEL flight a few years ago. There were spare middle seats further down the back but I chose to keep my forward aisle seat with very limited AVOD. The CSM gave me a $50 duty free voucher and I also received a $100 voucher after I wrote an email to QF about the lack of AVOD.

On another flight recently I received an upgrade to business class when the AVOD in my exit row aisle was not working.
