Time to don the dreaded hat again  .

Attack the argument and not the poster (and a fine line it can be between the two at times). As was noted above, keep those guns in the holster.

Yada Yada, I would hazard a guess that much of your QF travel is booked at late notice.

If so, that may explain your relatively poor SG seating pre-allocation.

It has been posted here that priority for automatic seating pre-allocation is based on status, followed by time of booking (not fare paid). Experiences, posted, and my own, would indicate this to be the case.

In which case you would be behind all those of the same status as you who booked earlier.

As for luggage; I can have 2 x 7Kg bags with Qantas mainline around Oz; I rarely check luggage.

Serfty, you're probably correct. I do book my domestic flights around 3 days before travel, sometimes even later and rarely earlier. At this point I can sit where I like on VB but not on QF. The other thing is that I am often travelling SYD-MEL and vv at peak times, so I imagine that SG's are a dime a dozen on these QF flights.

On a PER-SYD flight (about 12-15 months ago) I was able to peek at the pax manifest in the galley of an A332 whilst waiting to use the loo up front. Of the entire J cabin, I was the only SG. I think there was one no-status pax and the rest were all WP! So I get the impression that SG is kinda lowly these days on peak hour flights.

Probably a good idea. Doesn't matter which airline I use domestically, the bags seem to take forever to come out. My experience in SIN has been good but then again I'm always in J or last time in F.

I'm not averse to whinging about QF but I can't complain about seating. I have been a QC member for 14 years but have never risen above Silver FF.
I also travel perpetually in discount economy.

My preference is forward aisle (along with probably 90% of status'd pax) and I am based in Sydney. Going by Yada Yada comments about passenger manifests on peak routes, I should probably expect to be somewhere down the back of the plane.

So I can only put my favoured treatment down to my surname, consistent (but not all that regular) Qantas travel, lengthy QC membership, or sheer dumb luck. The only time I remember getting a dodgy seat was on a Canberra flight, where it was a miracle that the plane left the tarmac with all the heavy metal it was carrying.

So Yada Yada .... my suggestion is to change your name to Aaron Aardvark.

Cheers,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew... I might just do that! Or perhaps Geoff Dixon. That would at least make the staff do a double take. I would love to be paged in the QC with that name.

You do realise that the baggage handlers interpret the "First" tags as being the bags they are to load onto the aircraft first, thus making them the last to come off the aircraft.
.... or as the first to get lost.

Things down the back end of the baggage carousel are going to get more crowded with all these priority/business/first tags!

I noticed in another post that someone had a tag with "I love baggage handlers" which seemd to improve the chances of their bags coming out before the terminal closed. Maybe QF could issue the QP tags imprinted with this message for PS, followed by "I really love ...." for SG & "I really, really adore ..." for WP.

Perhaps you've got one of those little notation's on you FF account -
'has offended the great GD, all hail GD, one too many times - accidently forget to put on priority luggage tags and seat as far down the back as possible - in the middle.';)

How do I know this? Because I have a colleague who is a SG who swears he has the 'treat as royalty' flag ticked on his account. Says he always seems to get special treatment.

Or then again, just one of FF greatest little mysteries along with who gets op-up'd and who always loses baggage (got another friend like that - has even lost luggage on SYD-BNE!)

Yeah, I think as was pointed out above it is probably a function of me purchasing my tickets late, travelling frequently on one of the heaviest traffic sectors in the world during peak hours and therefore being on board with hundreds of WP's. :-|

Anyway, I have the situation sorted. I just don't fly QF much any more.
