Thanks Qantas :(

Our travel insurance doesn't not cover 'failure of carrier to operate service'. Of course it covers strikes and everything else. It seems most travel insurance is similar.

We have booked (on points) BNE-SIN and then BKK-HKG-BNE in J leaving Wed 2nd Nov. I am sure QF will refund the points (and the $1500 in 'taxes') but we will be out of pocket another $5000 for prepaid accommodation and local flights if we cant get make the trip. I doubt Qantas will cover this?

I wonder how many thousands of other people are in the same boat? I guess we are lucky that we are at home and not stuck in some random airport somewhere like many others.

Qantas will book you on another carrier in J at no cost to you. Ring them.

I had a FASA for 1 November and did this.

Unfortunately with a FF ticket there needs to be U class availability. Qantas have kindly told me they can get us on a BA flight in Y if I can get to SYD........

Lets just hope everything is back up and running soon!

Have you pushed? or just taken them at their word?

And name your insurer so we are all aware, please. I called travel insurance direct/Allianz and the lady I spoke to said I would be covered. If I need to claim through them I will update here.

Does it cover 'industrial action'- that's what QF management action would be classified as, wouldn't it? At least, and I'm no legal person, isn't that what the FWA ruling is about- that 'all' industrial action, both unions & management, is to cease...?

Which insurer?

I have the westpac platinum travel insurance, and a plain text reading of the contract seems to imply (to me) that it's covered. Strike action is the ultimate cause of the grounding, right?

Except there was actually no strike action planned. But maybe the insurer will not understand it was a Board decision and accept the claim. Need to lodge it before you find out.

Actually, no. At the time here were no Qantas staff strikes - the only strike was a pre-meditative strike by Qantas, as was reflected in the Fair Work Commission findings ...
