I flew PER-BNE-PER this weekend and discovered that QF appears to have removed the humble bread roll from the inflight meal in Y.

I noticed some extra space on the tray on the outbound sector and discovered that my tray (and the others around me) was missing the standard bread roll. Believing that PER catering had just run out of bread rolls, I did not think any more of it.

On the inbound sector, the bread roll was also missing. Upon inquiring with the FA, she confirmed that the bread roll had been removed from the inflight meal on the last couple of flights she had operated.

Is this another enhancement by QF or just a one (or two) off occurrence? Has the bread roll gone the same way as the mysterious 'third' cracker? I know the bread roll was not the most gourmet thing you would ever get to eat but helped to keep hunger at bay if you did not get a chance to have something to eat before the flight.

RIP Bread Roll.....

Too funny !! The bread rolls were pretty awful anyway but it would be nice to see them replaced with crackers, jatz etc IMHO

I found the bread rolls a good meal filler, and would be sad to see if they have gone for good.

Maybe I will need to poach a few from the Qantas lounge before my next flight.

i love my bread. Can't remember if they served it on my last J back from LA

I tend to fill up at the J Club before hand. Iusually only ask for a meal if it is something like those Cookies or that little brown bag of things. This is because I take them into the office the next day as a snack.

I generally ignore anything else.

Regards
Daniel

RIP Bread Roll.....

Just walked through the front door after arriving home in Y aboard QF566 PER-SYD.

Like the OP, no bread roll!! The empty compartment on the lower left of the tray naturally drew attention. In the interests of AFF QFF research, the "Beef in Smoky Tomato Sauce" (diced beef rissole, potatoes & what was supposed to pass for broccoli) serving portion only filled half the meal container. Originally scheduled as 332, but last minute equipment change to 763 (VH-OGM), & being shifted from 54A to 28D.

Oh, just one more thing! Anybody that flies transcont in Y is accustomed to ice cream after lunch/dinner service, followed by offers of water afterwards. Water came round after a long interval post-tea/coffee, but no ice cream...until about 75 min before landing. Most of us here would have been suspicious when the water made an early appearance. I was surprised when the ice cream did eventually come around. As I said, in the interests of research...

Does this point to PER Q Catering on strike?

Next!

Nope. Just Qantas systematically degrading the in-flight experience.

(And yes, I'm still bitter about their "Oh sparkling wine is champagne" attitude. Why not replace a bread roll with crumbs ... it's a similar analogy)

The bread rolls are now for WPs only. To get one, as you exit the J lounge, show your WP card to the dragon and ask for a "WP doggie bag." They will discreetly hand you a plain brown paper bag containing a small bread roll.

What about butter?? Or do you need to be a CL to get that too?? ;)

cabin crew probably forgot to take them off the dry ice early enough and they took a little while to defrost enough to be eaten without causing damage to the mouth/teeth.
RIP Bread Roll.....
Probably a weight saving as those rocks are dense and heavy!

Too tired to make a pun, but I had a breadroll a week ago today on the evening flight with the worst chicken and mushroom pasta ever created by man. Luckily I had had some yummy pizza and soup in the QP.
I think you are a slice short of the full loaf.
Ok I did try an include a bread reference... poorly.
