This is really interesting.

For several years I have been able to find easy availability for 2 x J awards to JNB return at least once or twice a year. Until this year I was Gold FF. Now I'm WP so you'd think I'd see even more availibility. But there is nothing. I have been looking everyday at 10am Brisbane time for the last month. Very strange. It's almost like I'm back at being a newbie again.

I realise i can can ring but actually don't need the flights yet. Does anyone else wonder what is going on here. Do they think that the flight to JNB is going to be the best route to Europe in the future to bipass the ME. Very interesting.

We booked 2xJ award seats for December this year a few months back. But had to call up to get them released.

Good to know that you got 2 x J released. I may have to try this. Just seems very strange that there is nothing except Y whereas there has always been good availibity in the past at all different times in the year.

I think I've solved the problem of the drought of award flights to JNB in March/April 2018. It's been 'bugging' me. There had to be a reason.

Australia plays South Africa in a test match ( cricket ) in South Africa March/April 2018.

I guess you can blame me. I got 2 J seats on line for mid-February the day they were released. Fortunately, I had planned a week or so in RSA before the first Test starts in Durban on February 28 so I probably missed the peak demand period if your supposition about the cricket is correct. We do not have to worry about the return JNB-SYD as we are heading to Europe and already have grabbed J award seats for early April after the last Test in Johannesburg. Good luck in finding some.

Excellent you were able to get your flights. Fortunately my dates are flexible so I'll keep looking til I see some.

In early December 2016 I had 2 x SYD-JNB J awards released for early May 2017. For WP and above it is probably a good thing that there is little availability on-line, as it is fairly easy to get J seats released. It won't be so good when I drop to LTG :(.

It may well be difficult to get seats released for the SA v AUS cricket though.

I agree as WP if even a little bit flexible then seats can be made available, probably one of the best reasons to be WP over SG, OK first class lounges can be good too not just QF ones.

Agreed a great benefit I rang up and got J seat released on this route for January 2018 when released inventory is usually very short.

I'm going to the cricket too.

No status with QF, but both VA and NZ have Business Class award inventory on SAA.

Have you been to the cricket in RSA before? It is a great experience. Maybe we should start an "RSA cricket tour" thread in due course. :)
