Sunday 20th March 2016. Platinum member walks into QF OOL lounge. ITS FULL! Cant find a spare seat. Cant find a place to stand at a table. Cant be bothered waiting in the line for the coffee, or waiting for the hot food to be replenished. The lounge was dirty, lots of empty plates un-collected Was worse than a night where an RSL club offered ree beer! Walk straight outside...the line at the gate for the JQ flight was quieter and less crowded! Whats the point in being a QF f flyer?! Not to mention platinum?

Monday 21st, another WP walks into the OOL lounge ... Same story, then realised its OOL so what can you expect ?

Unfortunately this will happen more often as there are many JQ flights during the day including the newish mel-ool qf flight. Simply put they need a new expanded lounge however airport space looks like it would be a problem. 2nd option is increase the Qantas club yearly price to flush out some people which qf are doing every year anyway.

That's a bit harsh.
Not everybody is Gold or above. Some people just like a little pampering, just not at OOL.

That was more a tongue in cheek comment, as obviously the real answer is to expand the lounge to match demand ;) I still have a few months of Qantas club frozen on my QFF account for when/if I drop down below gold in the future.

Sounds like they're deliberately overcrowding the lounge, lounge access is technically subject to space availability, although they almost never enforce it.

OOL is getting a new terminal this year. Long overdue. Likely will result in an upgrade to the lounge. QF are a victim of a runty terminal in this case I think.

Another option is end QP access for those on JQ flights? The OOL lounge is pretty empty once a JQ flight departs (from my experience).

Which may or may not make any difference because JQ prices are, for many routes, same or higher than QF and VA

I do NTL-BNE weekly and can't be bothered with JQ any more.. Who would chose JQ when they charge on average $94 vs VA $78 & QF $99 on the same route?

The "orange bus" has lost my patronage and I couldn't be happier

Except if you do that you exclude people (some of whom would be very profitable to QF) who don't have any choice but to fly JQ due to route or time.

They need to build a bigger lounge or restrict guest access when it's busy. Anything else would be unacceptable IMO.

It's not JQ pax fault that QF is failing to meet demand.

There was a conference held on the Gold Coast that ended on Sunday 20th. There were a lot of delegates returning home at various times that day. I also found the lounge crowded, but since I was one of those pesky delegates, I managed to share a table with someone I knew.
Regrettably there are many selfish people, and they had to make an announcement requesting that people remove bags from seats.
I also agree that the lounge needs to be made larger. Qantas should be able to predict demand, since most FF would have logged their FF number with their booking. Higher demand should see staff levels increased. Qantas needs to look after its "valued" customers, lest they go elsewhere.

For some of us poor suckers, we do not have a choice to fly Qantas on some routes (thanks Allan - for nothing). We fly Jetstar begrudgingly. Don't deny us access to QP.

QANTAS have been systematically making it harder to get lounge access on JQ. Moving from T2 in Sydney, switching from NRT to HND in Tokyo and the list goes on. Maybe QANTAS should build a their own terminal in OOL a distance away from the current terminal to make it harder to access QP for JQ flights, QANTAS seem to be working with JQ to reduce lounge access when flying JQ in a number of places.

You forgot melb. JQ is now all the way in T4

And the JQ flights from SYD/MEL international terminals as domestic tags

Don't people quite like the JQ intentional terminal domestic flights (because people can get into the Flounge?)

there is a simple fix - fly VA then you'll get the best lounge experience at OOL ;)

I spoke with the QANTAS (or Contracted to QANTAS staff) at the OOL lounge the other week who confirmed that OOL is getting an upgraded terminal and that there are plans for a better QANTAS Club lounge!
