@whatsaptodo
QF is going to use the 747 on SYD-PER services, replacing an A330 which will in turn replace the 737 on PER-SIN but it will reduce to 1 per day. Looks like the 747 will also be going to Hawaii sooner than expected and the 787 will be used on BNE-MEL returns. 717’s will also get an increase, although I don’t know where. This is because of a pilot shortage on the 737.

@QF744ER
Word is these daily SYD-PER-SYD-PER-SYD services will be operated by -OEB, which is now being retained after the Captains Choice tour, if so, it's quite high utilisation for a B744 at the end of its career.

NO detail on when his is likely to commence or how long it's for (OEB can't have that much life left in it)

Qantas seem to have a thing for running end of life 747s on domestic duties to Perth. They did it with the -200s and the -300s.

Easier to recover if they have issues.

And given the seating they shouldn't be on international services.

This would be a pretty positive outcome for us plebs in PER.

I presume WPs would get access to the Y+ seating on the 747s?

Hopefully it means they keep the midday departure to SIN with the ~7pm return flight, rather than the later one. Ie, run is as QF 71/72.

OJD was a regular bus on this run, but constantly plagued with mechanical issues.

Once spent 5 hours in Adelaide lounge after a cracked passenger window forced the diversion.

Still would be good to do an AFF Run on.

Did a red eye on PER - SYD in whY on the 747, with a man next to me, didn't put my bag into the overhead bin, thought it was a good idea to stuff it under the seat in front, nope, not a good idea at all on a red eye, flight was late leaving PER (past midnight), so I got my first sun rise view coming into SYD on that 747.
A very long time ago now.
Was an odyssey!
If this 747 flight does come to fruition, flying trans Australia on a domestic run, if I were to do this again, I would do a comfort seat booking this time. And bag must go into overhead bin.

And from airliners

First post after years of lurking.....
Saw the MEL/BNE/MEL 787 rotation loaded in Amadeus early last week,.
It was then removed early Thursday morning.

I have no idea regarding 747 services but a family friend is a 787 captain. Apparently a large amount of pilots are Brisbane based but transiting to Melbourne to operate services. With the next 787 base growing in Brisbane he said they are opperating more services between Brisbane and Melbourne to increase the exposure and build experience quicker before more aircraft arrive.

With the 332 coming back to PER-SIN (the good QF71/72 flight times as well) and over 1.2M QFF points to burn, I excitedly had a quick look at what J availability may suit my future needs.

Found some J seats that suit and then got the price quote - 100k QFF points + AUD628.87. Oh well, back to SQ I go....

Probably international crews working on these 747 domestic flights, which in my opinion, offer a better level of service than domestic crews.

I wonder if this will loose some potential J business?

Older J product and improved (?) Y product. Especially for pax with status who are likely to have the option to select a seat in Premium Economy.

If it is OEB, don’t forget the F section in the nose.
