i thought I might treat my little one to a jumbo flight while they're cheap on domestic, but would need to be late September. Latest I can see the 747 doing the route is 5th September :(

Availability now available for my dates. Flights booked. J upper deck. Little one is going to be stoked.

They did. I remember the -300s. It was a disaster. Virtually every flight was delayed with technical issues (I think a combination of end of life planes and restricted capability in Perth). I well remember the afternoon flight out of Perth turning into the midnight flight and then the next day 7 am flight and then the late morning flight. Then boarding to have more technical issues (an hour or so) and then another hours wait because the NEXT flight (747 too) also had technical issues and so they waited until that was declared a no go and loaded those passengers onto our flight.
But hearing the RB211s fire up was great. You could hear it from security clearing at MEL - fantastic moment for the geeks.

Had OEB last night, upstairs was actually blocked out and everyone was moved downstairs and was clear plenty of people weren't aware of this change as they were handing out new boarding passes at the gate. Was a light load in economy with rows and rows and rows empty. It changed mid afternoon from upstairs being wide open to being completely blocked out on expert flyer.

But luckily the good old T-80 managed to get me Y+ seats and next couple of flights have been selecting mid 30's for my seats as lately when they change the AC you just get put into the same seats and ends up being Y+.

OEB was defintley showing her age the Y+ were being held together by duct tape.

Just booked a flight in October, managed to get the top deck, didn't have much choice though as no status, only had the choice of row 15 or 16 or row 8 on the lower deck, there were a couple of seats in row 7 but only single seats (traveling with my wife)

Looks like there’s a raft of 747 on Syd Perth in September. Unless I’m mistaken it’s upto 3-4 per day ....

Please Can anyone else confirm this is so ?

Anyone know if there's anything particularly eventful happening in Cairns the weekend of 3 November? The following flights are currently scheduled to be operated by an A332:

3NOV QF922 SYD-CNS
4NOV QF923 CNS-SYD

747 operations are presumably due to the growing 787 fleet. I wonder if oddball OEB will be tasked with the domestic flying so the rest of the fleet will be consistent.

Rumours floating in airliners.net that either OJT or OJU will be retired in LAX (no QF16 operated on 26Aug so an extra aircraft in LAX) -- looks like OJU

NBL game Cairns Taipans v Melbourne United is at Cairns convention centre 3 Nov. Not sure if that is it. QF702/703 from and to MEL on those days are also scheduled as 332s

Cheers skip

Took a booking on one of the 747 flights and in doing dummy bookings, I found couple of em were as like “FromTheRail’s” Lower Deck/Upper Deck while the third had Lower Deck seats rows 1-4, 23-26 suggesting this is the 747-400 with First class suites (1-4) with Business (23-26). I’ll go back and check at T-80 to see what seats open up!

Now that we are into football finals will be interesting if a few 747s end up on certain routes.
St George playing Brisbane in Brisbane, Collingwood playing West Coast in Perth.

737 pilot shortage eased? I've got two return flights to Perth and one return to Auckland from Sydney during Oct/Nov/Dec and all were orginally A330 but half of these flights have now been switched to 737s in the last week or so.

A tad peeved as I had upgraded to business ages ago so I can enjoy the flat bed especially with one flight leaving PER at 5.45am. Can't sleep on a recliner.

Will bubble tonight

Came over yesterday and the seat plan had changed. Ugh

Great food, actually had a menu and wine and flat bed

Ow we are boarding on time

Just did my flights from PER to SIN return on QF71/72 and it was so much better than the 737 which I had originally booked for so was very happy with the flights. I was only in economy but the seats were really nice and comfy and glad I didn’t waste the points on upgrading to business.

Not sure if this has been previously mentioned anywhere, but Qantas will now maintain the A330 on the PER-SIN route from April 2019. (It was previously scheduled to revert to twice-daily 737s from 31 March.)

It was interesting to note last week on 28/11 that QF was able to sub a 747 in to cover for the weather related disruptions and cxl's that day. Luckily my 330 operated only 90min late so did not need to get moved to the 747 service, but I did notice the sub.
