QF Offal in Red Wine Sauce

....as a vet......can see a large artery sticking out from a lump of fat....more dried shrivelled fat on the surface of other pieces.....etc etc etc.

This stuff should have been cut off at the butcher / processor; obviously they have the cheapest cut from the cheapest supplier and then cut it all up without any trimming. It won't kill you but is unappetising.... and not what I would expect, even in 'cattle' class.
This is gross...QF you need to lift your game!

What a horrifying experience.. I'll sure stick to the spinach & ricotta pie if flying QF in Y.

So, summing up today's Qantas news:

1. They are likely serving offal in economy meals (I wonder if they serve halal offal on the flights to/from Dubai??)

2. They are hosting cough on their Facebook page: Qantas sorry after boy exposed to cough

QF32 - where we were so very proud of our airline and the capability of its pilots and crew - to this state of affairs. I know the pilots and crew are still first class, but how would you sew today's items into a recommendation for the airline?

How "nice" to think that maybe the most memorable thing about rdmsmith's international trip will be that disgusting meal served up by QF. Ah yes, memories are forever!
Hopefully someone at QF will read up on "Customer Satisfaction 101" and there can be a cultural re-think about the merit of having at least some KPI's that don't merely relate to cost efficiences. Competitiveness can, and should, be about so much more than price but that thinking is sooooooooo last century, apparently (like quality control).

One huge problem for us consumers is that many companies now just don't rate the need for customer satisfaction until the lack of it has a demonstrable negative effect on the bottom line - that's why so many companies have such long "On Hold" wait times; and why we shouldn't hold our breath waiting for the situation to improve - because it probably won't no matter how many times we are told things like "your call is important to us".

While rdmsmith's specific meal might be explained away as an aberration, the "big picture" issue is the decline in standards generally due to a pre-occupation with screwing every last cent out of every step of the process. There would be someboby at QF who has the job of putting the screws on the catering company to trim their unit price every time their contract comes up for renewal...........and it's probably the same bloke responsible for the inadequate champagne inventories for J and F pax that were the subject of another recent AFF thread.

The reality is that plane food won't be a substitute for real food any time soon - so eat in a departure lounge if you can or take something edible from home!

That was the result of someone with cough in their profile picture posting on their Facebook page... I don't see how that is Qantas directly at fault though.

Qantas hosts the FacePimple page

Qantas allows the free putting up of images and words on said FacePimple page

Qantas does this in spite of the long and sordid history of people posting offensive materials on this type of page and indeed Qantas' page previously

Qantas apparently does not actively moderate the FacePimple page - at least not out of Eastern Australia business times

.... Hence I think its pretty reasonable to say that Qantas is directly responsible for the images and words it allows to be posted on its FacePimple, and its other web sites.

... but .... back to the offal its said they serve their passengers .... ;)

I've had some Barry crockers before including stuff that closely resembled that picture, but that looks pretty bad.

Barry Crockers, haven't heard that in a long time. For those of you who are too young to have ever heard of Bazza MacKenzie, Reload means 'shockers' :)

What the hell is going on at QF?

Cost cutting everywhere it seems. Is the Emirates link up not working? Wasnt this supposed to help save money and increase profits?

I would have to say that If I was served up that Crxp I would be furious and would have taken pictures too.

QF come on and get your act together. You promote the new Better Business Class food service coast to coast and cut back in Y to horrible rubbish like this

Overall the food quality on QF has taken a severe nose dive of late especially in Y.

Perhaps we should get NP to fly Y and eat Y food for a week and see how QF is giving people a bad impression of NP inspired food.

Not every economy meal is going to be perfect but you don't need something that is going to be horrible either.

I had lamb with cous cous on a BNE-SIN flight earlier today and it was quite tasty. The person in the window seat had the fish and that looked OK as well.

I am a fan of the lamb with cous cous. Had it in March on QF77 up to Singapore from Perth, very acceptable for a Y meal.

I agree with your statement. You want something edible and this certainly did not pass that grade. I personally almost never rely on airline food for a sector longer than ~4-4.5 hours and eat appropriately before hand on a flight of/around that duration, usually forgoing the meal ("Just the tray please" :))

It always makes me smile whenever I read or see the inflight spin on "NP inspired food" as I open yet another packet of cardboard and yellow-rubber or the morning breakfast cereal. There's not a much "NP love" in domestic Y (I'm not even sure that the Rockpool has any influence on the cooked Y meals ... correct me by all means).

I agree totally with the cost-cutting comments. Gee, I can't even remember the last time I received a SMS when my flight has been delayed (such as the 694 last Thursday) - how much can it cost to send a text through your own servers? Thank goodness BB Travel was keeping me up-to-date, QF certainly couldn't be bothered!

Regards,

BD

As the great composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim wrote on airline food:
"Anything that is white is sweet,
Anything that is brown is meat,
Anything that is grey... don't eat."

Having to travel 'Cattle Class' is one thing, but QF aren't likely to sell too many seats once the term 'Offal Class' takes its place...

Disgusting! That artery piece makes me want to be sick.

I know this stuff occasionally gets through quality check controls, but still - no-one ever wants to see that. Ick!

It appears the artery is clear and came from a healthy animal on a low-fat diet! (tongue in cheek)

It took a little while but I got a response from Customer Care on this. The only apology was for the delay in replying.. apparently the meal was 'more lean meat than fat'. Sorry, not good enough Qantas.

Dear rdmsmith,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your experience with your meal on flight QF82 from Singapore to Sydney.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in our response. We launched an investigation as soon as we received you email. Our microbiologist has since reported back and our investigations revealed that the cut of meat we are using is not topside but chuck. The meat is cut into cubes and it has more lean meat than fat. Please be assured that we have passed on your comments to the relevant manager with our catering team for their internal review.

Thank for taking the time to write to us again.

Kind Regards
