Hello,

Myself and my family have a trip planned around Austalia later in the year and I have booked all the flights for the 4 of us, some paid for, some on points, and some through my AMEX free domestic flight redemptions.

Problem I have is that the majority of the bookings are completly separate so are not linked. Considering there are young kids involved, I want to try and avoid being split up on the flights. (I may have incorrectly specified they were adults so I could book them online.)

I am a QF silver but others are not members.

My question relates to the online check in, 24 hours before. I will have a laptop but no access to a printer. If I check in online, choosing the seats for the associated bookings, then do not print out the boarding passes, will we have those seats allocated when we check in at the airport?

Thankyou in advance.

Widemouth, welcome aboard AFF.

Yes, if you check in with QF those seat selections will hold. You'll be able to print the boarding passes either at the airport using Quickcheck, or the check in agents will be able to do this for you.

If you're flying economy and don't have status on either a QF or Oneworld carrier, make sure to proceed to the non-bag drop lines - just avoids the agents getting snotty.

If you have all the booking reference numbers, you can contact QF Reservations in advance of your travels who'll be able to link them together. This make the whole check-in experience far less painful for you all.

Happy travels.

Hi widemouth and welcome to AFF

If you OLCI and do not print the pass you just show up to the normal checkin counter and they will print a BP for you and you will still have those seats you selected during OLCI.

However the best thing to do would be to call QF and ask them to link the PNR's and that will ensure you get seated together.

Should not be a problem to keep the seats allocated during OLCI as long as there is not an equipment change. I use OLCI but do not have the facilities to print a boarding pass. I ask for a boarding pass at check-in or bag drop. Keep in mind you can also print boarding passes at the Quickcheck machines if you have used OLCI.

As mentioned call Qantas to link the bookings and well.

Another trick to install the free CutePDF Writer software on to your laptop.

This installs as a "Printer" and can be chosen when pinting.

This enables you to then choose to print your output to a .PDF format disc file. I do this to a USB key/stick "drive", which can then be inserted into a PC with a printer attached at an appropriate time and printed.

Colour me confused, but aren't the boarding passed PDF files anyway and can just be saved?

Yep, the boarding passes supplied via OLCI are already PDFs, so there's no need to convert them.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

By qantas yes, but not by virgin, and possbily not on outher airlines. Maybe that is the reason for the advice

I know it is not the subject of your question but why are the others not members?

It is free through EDR and just by having QF NB they will get better seat allocations.

Also SC's, points and the knowledge that along with 7 million others they are a member.;)

Absolutely, simply click on the rather large "Print" and save the .PDF generated to your USB stick.

I have used CutePDF with AA, UA and CX BP's (wich are not generated as .pdf's) and was simply posting a standard procedure I employ.

FWIW, I generally save/print to .pdf even when I can print a hard copy.

Thankyou everyone for your advice. Its much appreciated.

Excellent Idea! thanks. Looking at the T&C's for the EDR card, there is no age limit so should be able to sign up the kids as well.

There is no age limit on EDR or QF membership so the kids can join up.

Likewise, though my solution is built-in to my mac, I feel much better knowing I can just open my laptop and there’s the file/PDF incase I need it for some reason. Especially useful if I don’t have web access.

You cal use OLCI and then print your own boarding pass at the airport using the self-check-in kiosk. Then take the freshly printed BP to the OLCI Bag Drop queue to deposit your bags. There is often an agent manning this queue - just explain you did OLCI and just printed the BP at the kiosk due to no printer available at home/hotel etc. Always worked for me.

Why not just save a copy using the Adobe Reader shift control s?

Whoops , thought you meant Cute PDF was used for QF :D, definitely needed for DJ!

As others have indicated, a phone call to QF with all your booking numbers to hand will get them all linked.
