Couple of questions on an upcoming trip:

Looking to fly out to KL and free seat selection is important to us. Qantas want $30 per seat so that's $120 between the two of us. I've read that it's possible to get an EK booking reference which would allow us to manage our booking on the EK website. Is this still the case?

Also, how are seats allocated to QF? If we book through QF (to optimise points earn), would we be free to select any seat we want in economy, or are they allocated the less favourable seats?

Thanks in advance!

You do get an EK PNR when you book the QF code share to KUL, not sure about the actual seats as I have never flown in Y class on QF/EK code shares

Cheers - thanks! Just booked through Amex travel and managed to select seats for free on the QF website.
