Ever since qantas stuck in "R" class in between "W" and "T", "T" has been very difficult to get.

It has become a bit like "I" in business on qantas - very hard to find.

Inserting "R" has really annoyed me becAUSE of the resultant dry up of "T" seats.

This is Qantas yield management annoying pax.

In fact I heard from a QF insider that it is easier to get a points upgrade than to find "T" seats on many flights.

looks to be plenty of availability on QF127 through Mar and April doing some dummy bookings, perhaps they have opened up the T class availability in the new year.

The SYD-HKG PE Fares are $150 higher than a month ago . .

After flying with VA in PE lat year I'd take them at 1K cheaper than QF to LA.

Considering they give 2 dedicated staff to PE compared to QF's 1

I also think QF stick u with a standard Y meal where VA do give a better meal service.

My experience with QF is that there are 2 dedicated cabin crew, but during the middle of the flight one of them disappears (assume for a break) while there is another (from business?) who gets assigned for answering the call buttons.

With some of the good business class deals out there on other carriers is this good value? I guess it must be as people do pay it. There are often mixed J/Y deals available through bestflights, and even at the moment one could fly MEL-SIN for $700 on EK in Y and then SIN-LHR for $3900AUD return in J on TK or TG. Sure similar could apply SYD-BKK then BKK-LHR What's better Y+ all the way, or Y for 7 hour then J for 13 ?

It isn't even good value on Qantas itself, considering that there are often PE sales ex-Asia, and PE sales to Asia.

You can shave $1000 off that fare just by combining 2 tickets...

Actually I would disagree with this - the VA Y+ lunch wasn't of the standard that the QF Y+ lunch was (portions and quality).

That said, I would still rather fly VA :p

Qantas PE meals are a subset of J meals presented differently. Also, J PAX get first choice of the options.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a sale for peak season, or even shoulder season, instead of low season. Or how about lower airfares all year round regardless of departure point?

John,

If you regualrly travelto, say, BKK, you would be better off booking return travel BKK-SYD/BNE-BKK with BKK to Oz just after new year* and Oz to BKK return just after Christmas*.

The book the same routing for the next year etc etc

*Assuming this is when you normally travel it Asia.

I may call tomorrow, but what are people thoughts on the booking class for any domestic Oz connections.

E.g. HKG-xSYD-MEL is $20 more expensive than HKG-MEL. The ex HKG legs book into T class ... what would the SYD-MEL sector book into? Y? B? Q?

It's called supply and demand. An airlines inventory can't be stored up, so when a flight has left, any left over seats are wasted. Hence sales to drum up a bit of business, but during peak times when the flights are full, then there is no need for a sale.

It probably wouldn't be Y, as T ex HKG is the discount premium economy(?), so I doubt then they'd put it into fully flexible econ on the domestic leg. But all other econ classes get the same points/SCs anyway, so it's a bit moot which class connections book into?

Unfortunately with trips to Thailand now only once a year I would need to wait until I was in Thailand after Christmas, possibly after New Year, before I could book the next return at which point the airfares may not be available or too expensive.

IIRC, it is one of the flexi saver claases, but was different between the various Premium Saver Classes

Not true for domestic flights. YBHK all credit at full economy SC's.

Didn't realise that.

The booking rules for a Y+ ex HKG to SYD, then transferring to Y to MEL states "Classed as Premium Economy when Status Credits are earned on this fare", so in theory the SYD->MEL leg would be at full Y/Y+ rates. Therefore BHK, as Y is full economy but T isn't full Y+?
