Is that double the price of WHY? For an extra 7 inches of leg room and the same service! No thanks. I just hope that BA does not follow suit and increase WT+ prices in line with QF....

Visible for me under award bookings (as serfty noted above), but not for paid bookings.....

Premium Economy return fares from Sydney (inc taxes, etc) will start from:
Hong Kong - $1999
Singapore - $2189
Bangkok - $2552
Johannesburg - $4217
London - $4567

The SIN and BKK figures seem a wee bit pricier than BA T fares. But I suppose due to the JSA they'd both have to price out the same?

96K is 1½ times the points required for WHY. (64K).

It seems Y+ is coming out at 150% the WHY award.

A trip MEL-(QF Y)-LAX-(AA Y)-JFK-(BA Y+)-LHR-(QF Y+)-MEL is showing as a Qantas oneworld award at a rate of 210K points + $679.01 (AUD). (WHY oneworld award is 140K)

Ooh I see it now under the paid bookings option - you need to have a departure date of APR or later.

It's official: About Qantas - Newsroom

- Sydney to London via Singapore and Bangkok from 1 April 2008;

I would have said a lot more expensive.

I hope not. Most times BA economy airfares can be $200-$300 cheaper than the same airfare offered by QF.

I just love that logic especially when paid Y+ airfares only earn 10% bonus on WHY FF point earning.

Not as bad as First requiring 3x but only earning 50% bonus!

On the plus side it still looks like JQ * class will earn J points (as per the new earning table)

Lets hope it stays that way :)

According to the QF marketing machine, their premium economy is more than a different seat. JQ Star Class is just a different seat and the bundling of some services that would otherwise be paid for.

QF claims that Premium Economy:
  • Will have a dedicated flight Attendant for the 32 seats (or 40 seats for US flights), so should mean more attentive service
  • Will get pre-flight champagne
  • A dedicated Premium Economy menu
  • Premium wines
  • A selection of snacks and drinks available through the flight
  • Priority check-in
  • Dedicated boarding lane

It is possible to say that the extra services provided by QF for premium economy could be worth an extra $100 over WHY plus the extra leg room.

I still can't see how this equates to a 100% surcharge on WHY airfares!

well they are worth (to Qantas) whatever people will pay for them. If people are willing to pay an extra $2000 for a trip to the UK, then that is where QF will set the price. I am not surprised by the noted prices. I always expected QF to set the price high initially and see if people will pay. They can always discount the price later if they are not selling enough.
