QF-QR baggage interline agreement on two PNRs

Ok, so now for an update. I’m currently at SIN (almost 9:30am). I arrived last night on QF35, and on a separate PNR I’m departing tonight on QR to MXP.

In Melbourne QANTAS said they were unable to interline the baggage and I’d need to collect it in SIN and recheck it.

When I arrived last night (and sleeping airside at the transit hotel, and obviously unable to get my baggage) the transfer desk said just get it the next day from Lost and Found and then go landslide and check it in. But that obviously as I couldn’t check it in till 3 or 4 hours before the QR flight I’d have to put it in paid luggage storage during the day.

On a whim, I went to the transfer desk airside again this morning to see if I could get my boarding pass even though my QR flight is in 12 hours time. Not only did I get my boarding pass but she asked for my QANTAS luggage receipt from the inward flight. She then typed away and said that’ll all now be sent through to MXP. Now I don’t need to interact with my luggage at all. Hopefully!!

And now I can happily explore JEWEL this morning and crawl around SIN lounges this afternoon

Agreed. SIN is best. I did the same a few weeks ago with a QF to MH connection that QF refused to interline.

SIN transfer desk staff happily retagged the bags and printed a boarding pass.

It seems so recently that I could randomly book awards/revenue OneWorld flights with my only concern being the airports published MCT - didn’t know how good I had it until it was lost - now we all are treated like EasyJet pax at checkin (obviously onboard is very different)

Well, here’s a further update and it’s not so good (but it ends up ok).

Transfer desk coded my bags onto the QR flights to Doha & Milan. Although this happened the bags didn’t move. Fortunately I had an apple airtag on one of them and I could watch their (lack of) movement during the day. Three hours before departure I went back to the transfer desk and asked if all was ok and was assured it was. One hour before I went back again. This time the CSO seemed a bit confused and said I should check at the departure gate. So I headed to the departure gate, produced my (QF) baggage receipt and said my bags are still in Lost & Found and not on the plane. Quick action from the staff resulted in the bags getting on the plane.

Does anyone have any experience with baggage interline on QF (Reward - first PNR, SYD to Jakarta) and subsequently QR (Paid - second PNR, Jakarta to Europe). The QF homepage seems to suggest baggage “maybe” checked through in this scenario:

“^ Exemptions apply for customers travelling on a oneworld separate PNRs when using a combination of award travel and revenue travel. Note: This is a Qantas exemption and may not be supported by all oneworld airlines.”

Reporting back good news: It worked

We arrived at a deserted J check-in to check-in for QF41. The lovely lady just started her shift, and we were her first customer.

We walked up and explained the situation (QF J award, and two subsequent QR Y flights to ZRH on two separate PNRs). First answer was: Sorry, we don't do that anymore as it costs us money (as per previous posts above). Me: Naaaa, not good enough.

So we walked to the ticketing guy. He said, yes, we do that in this circumstances. Me: Win. Check-in agent: Ok, lets go over to the F check-in where the supervisor needs to override things. 10mins later that was done. All bags checked through to Zurich (well, we have AirTags in ), and all boarding passes issued.

They informed us that the IFE won't work on one seat but I accepted that given we had this win and little Mr will sit there with his iPad anyway.

Took about 20 - 25 mins, 3 QF agents but all good to go now.
