QF returning to KUL (maybe)

KUL might have some amount of demand, but it is low yield. QF pulled out of KUL for a reason.
QF said that about India but are flying multiple flights again. 🤷‍♂️

Why wouldn't they?
I can see a day in the future where the Avios group start to drift from the rest. I don’t see the QR rift with QF ending anytime soon and I’d hope that BA and IB are pulled into line by their Qatari overlords. Will be interesting to see how many others join the Avios group as AY are already in, UX if approved will be soon and WY will be shifting to Avios as a condition of joining OW from my understanding

And in this scenario, oneworld remaind mainly a pacific circle Alliance? QF, JL, MH, CX, FJ, AS, AA, SL.

Still seems pretty good for us down here!

QR can leave and go then.
Plenty of others to fill the gap. EK would then jump on I'd assume.
Just because they are part of an Avios program, doesn't necessarily mean they are owned by IAG, and then mean their same interests are aligned.

Of course not. I just think we will see some changes in the coming years. Alliances seem to changing quite often these days in Europe especially. Perhaps rather than leave an alliance we see more alliances within alliances which to me defeats the purpose but it’s clear that some don’t get along for whatever reason.

Very common for airports (and governments) to be chasing airlines, getting QF to KUL is a long shot IMHO given the aircraft shortages QF have and I'm sure there are other ports that are well and truly ahead of KUL in the pecking order.

For QF / OW pax this would open new connections to Europe if all these eventuate: LHR (BA), HEL (AY) and MAD (IB)
LHR and HEL can be accessed through SIN and HKG with BA and AY, with both SIN and HKG offering vastly superior connectivity to Asia and Europe compared with what KUL offers.

QF to KUL may well open up more reward flights from Australia to Europe - MH onwards from KUL.
There are precious little Aus-Europe flights on Qantas at the moment !

I'll throw in a left-field Idea. The existing BLR/DEL services will stop in KUL., perhaps even terminate there if they're not going well commercially.
This weekend we booked a cruise starting in Mumbai so as I do I looked at February 2025 on mrsdrron's QFF account and once again not a single award in any cabin on QF metal out to release date. So doubt it is going that badly. They do offer "CR" awards on EK with and $895 surcharge in Y.
QF charge ~ $1100 for one way to BOM. Something tells me they are dreaming when you can buy a SQ ticket on the same days in Y for $A750. So QF flights to BOM don't seem like a low yield route or not doing well.

Although the difference is that this time are doing direct flights rather than stopover.

I did MEL-DEL last year and will do SYD-BLR later this year (I'll be going to Mumbai later on in the same trip). I spoke to the CSS onboard Melbourne Delhi (this was in early May 2023, right before it was cut back to 3 a week) and was told it is a VFR route but would go up again temporarily over summer, and sure enough it did to 6x weekly.

I was also told SYD-BLR was a more premium route with business travellers and sure enough has gone from just 3x weekly when it started in September 2022 to 5x weekly now.

What does this have to do with KL? If a route is worth doing, QF may do it. Although it is strained with aircraft now, it would not hesitate to take one from elsewhere for a better route. I would love KL given the lounges and I like the city too, but it is low-yielding so unlikely to eventuate any time soon.

I'd rather QF left actually and they can do whatever they want with their bed partner EK. ,,😋
