J fares to JFK are not bad but availability seems very limited. From a quick check, I could not find any cheap seats available at all.

Heres a tip. Check via Zuji.com.au and BestFlights.com.au as there are no Restrictions it seems and cheaper Fares for the sale.

Bugger.
I've just checked and where we are (already booked with another OW airline) going for Xmas is actually on sale for a pair of J tix.
But we book our Xmas flights about 10 months out.
Shame QF don't open up 'cheap' pricing early on ie 12 months out and then as the plane fills they could play around with yields. Would encourage people to book in advance, increase cash flow and lock in some certainty.
Oh well each to their own.

With these sales, it might be prudent to jump on expedia.ie and see if the fares are cheaper ;)

Only flights that are cheaper with Irish sites I could find in Y ex MEL were SIN, HKG, FRA and LON.

The effect of this in your case would be that the consumer pays less and the airlines gets less. That is not good for the airline.

what!!!!! I put in my flight times and I get $9855 return!!!! I maybe doing something wrong but on the travel sites these flights look like code share ?

I called QF and the cheap J fares haven't been loaded online yet despite advertising the promo online. The agent offered to book it for me but I opted to wait and book online, hopefully tomorrow the fares will show.

Just check with Zuji etc to see what the fare will be when it appears on the site.

Just went looking for J Sale fares out of Paris into MEL (return), as an alternative to LHR-MEL-LHR.

A couple of options via SIN and HKG but the bulk of the offerings were via LHR, on QF 10, for around 2900 Euros outward bound. Not fabulous value but worth thinking about - until checking the infamous "!", which revealed:
"Your flight London to Melbourne will be in Economy"!

!!! Indeed!

Thanks for the tip, Spizz.
Had not seen that site previously.
Brings up an equivalent option around $AUD6.5K. As yet, I can't see the detail of the booking class without proceeding with a booking but will have another play later and see if I can learn more.
Again, thank you. ;)
