Good effort (or maybe a badly delayed take off!) They manage o normally through three glassess of champagne down me - but I get grumpy that it can then take 30 mins to get a drink after take off.

We really are so spoilt

We are indeed. I am a beer man sorry so no champers for me. My brother i on cx did the 5 can b4 take off and it wasn't delayed the chinese steward who kept bringing the cans was slightly amazed i think, i remember it was hot as all hell and we were late for the flight and had to run to it so there was a good excuse!!

Used to do the beer many moons ago. Now help myself to several scotches in the lounge then right onto champagne once on board. Don't like flying so need to have a wee tipple to boost my courage. I do admire someone who can sink 5 beers so quickly so you never know.....If we were on the same flight we may have to raid the J bar!!!

My point about the extra Dom was not that I could have more....rather that the Emirates crew will refill my glass and let me keep it during take off. QF crew have not allowed me to hold onto a drink during take off. I have never had a "nasty" experience with any airline in F, but for me, I do now prefer EK.

That is dangerous. A glass could end up anywhere on take-off (or landing for that matter), injuring yourself or other pax and crew. That is why all airlines are supposed to clear away pre-departure glasses (and any containers of eg mixed nuts).

That's why I hate flying!!! Seems to me that if the plane goes down I want that glass in my hand. Trust me Kiwi Flyer I hold onto the glass for grim life. Not my nuts though!!

Well Natasha Stott Despoja had to put up with me between SYD - MEL on the night she had announced she was leaving politics. 3.5 hours in Qantas Club had me just a wee bit tipsy. CSM in J was one I see regularly (Samantha Vivian) She had a scotch in my hand before the aircraft was loaded. (Don't worry Kiwi Flyer she took the glass before take off.) Managed several more before MEL and Natasha and I had a great chat!! Well I did at least.

Yeah well - I couldnt give a rats what other people think when I ask for an extra drink now. I know I will crash out and sleep, wont bore them with my life story and will have my seat belt fastened at all times for safety reasons ;)

I had a similar experience in 2005 to compare BA Club world with QF and BA First: I agree that First is better but BA Club World - which is now being further upgraded - is terrific. You can sleep lying flat - no matter what QF and others say, angled does not equal flat.

It is flat, it just isn't horizontal ( which to me is the big issue )

Length and width are higher on my list of priorities than horizontalness. I will try the New New Club World when it is available as it is supposed to be improvement in length over the current New Club World product. Until then I am content with a lack of horizontility in place of width and length.

I have never had the pleasure of some of the other products but the QF skybed and the SQ version are both in my opinion very good, couple of drinks and i can sleep ok :) i am just glad when i get any J seat.

I don't mind the 'slope'.

this is my first post anywhere. so here goes. I have been enjoying reading the posts from fellow ff and now have a query re british airways first class from singapore to london then returning end of august economy class using my ff points. this has cost almost 400k ff for two. just wondering if this is best use of my accrued points.

Depends on whether you really really want 1st class.
If there was availability I'd prefer to go in Biz both ways than First and Econ, but thats just a personal preference and a view that the points differential to First isn't worth it.... That said First is ver good

Personally unless you have millions of points I dont think F is a good use. I fyou can find a good new BA J route that for me would be better

I think J with F other benefits (i.e. if you are QF Plat) is an amazing product on all three airlines - QF, CX, BA :)

The best use of your points is to use them in a manner that you think is best; it doesn't matter what other people think is a good use. If you would like to experience 1st class on BA, then that is a good use for you. If you have enough points, rather than take economy, see if you can get World Traveller Plus ( it is an extra 21k over economy iirc)

Welcome to AFF andersen.joyce.
Dave Noble has hit the nail on the head. If you think it's worth it, it is.. I have used points to upgrade from J to F a few times and will continue to when I can. This could also be considered a waste of points by some people. But I really enjoy the F experience. I reckon it's one of those things you have to do at least once.. Except beware.. it is easy to become hooked :) .
I hope you enjoy your F class trip.. I always do!

Many thanks to the fellow ff community who answered my query. to clarify my situation more i have accrued these points aver a few years actually. I have only discovered this site when I decided to research for my long dreamed of trip overseas.

If you don't know what you are doing with points as I don't, I have had to rely on the staff of qantas to help me book my flights thus i have finished up with this arrangement. I was looking forward to flying business class by upgrading with points which after many phone calls to qantas staff some not at all helpful and last found one who seemed to have some nouse at the other end of phone came up with this flight plan using BA. Apparently there is no way to upgrade to qantas and fly business class to London? I really still don't know if this was best use of my points. I am educating myself by reading sites such as this one and whatever else I can find. My trip is planned for early August.

My accrued ff points in total were 440 000 now reduced to aprox 40 000. Taxes from singapore to london return $900 and still have to out get of australia to singapore for connecting flight - looking for best deal that will gain me some points as well as to the connecting flight on time.

Any ideas from the ff warriors?
