QF Status credits when flying Cathay

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question please - does the number of status credits differ when flying Cathay and booking a CX flight number vs Qantas flight number? Do you even get status credits if booking a CX flight number or reduced amount?

I would assume you should book the QF flight number if available, right?

Yes, it's different. Overall CX flight numbers will earn in lower categories than QF in economy, and not at all on some discount economy fares, but similar for business.

Whether or not you should book CX or QF depends on your goals among other factors... practically speaking you often end up paying more for more SCs.

This gets pretty annoying as some flex fares on Cathay are the same fare class as their light fares. And sometimes, you end up paying for a flex fare and earn no* SC.
The website also only displays the lowest price fare category.
The only way around this is to contact them via Whatsapp chat or phone and request them to quote you for a particular fare class.
I have had good success using their Whatsapp chat. They dont charge you immediately. They send you a payment link that is valid for 12 hours. It lets me process the booking

I've found that ITA Matrix is still able to price CX quite well, and you can tell it what fare class to use.

Yea, it will price it, but you have to contact them or a TA to book it.
