I reached out to AAdavantage recently asking if they would match my QF Plat status (Wife and I are moving to Dallas for a few years). Here is what I received back.....

"Currently, we do not offer a status match from Qantas Airlines. We understand that you are interested in upgrading your elite status quickly. We're interested in helping! First, we'll need to speak with you."

I called and they said nothing available now. But to call becak every month as they normally run a promo at the end of the year. Does anyone have any details of what the 3 month challenge has looked like i t he past? Thanks.

Oneworld carriers won't match each other. I believe there is an agreement between them not to poach customers.

Congrats on your first post!

There was a recent AA challenge via LinkedIn with much lower thresholds to earn status as well as waiving the 4 AA flight requirements. That has now closed but keep an eye out (on this forum in particular) as they do pop up from time to time.

Many US airlines do Status Challenges so it's worth keeping an eye out.

I hope all goes well in your move to DFW, I love TX, first choice on my list if I was to work in LOTFAP.

I heard that AA stopped the Elite Status Challenges to Gold and Plat but were planning a new scheme in 2016.

I heard that AA stopped the Elite Status Challenges to Gold and Plat but were planning a new scheme in 2016.
I reckon it was stopped due to the upcoming demise of EQP which was the basis for the Challenges.

USair had their own paid version called "Trial Preferred" - it was based on BIS miles or segments only. You were granted an initial status depending on how much you paid then had three months to travel:
Upgrade to Preferred

Preferred status / cost Silver – $200 Gold – $400 Platinum – $600

Then, over the next 90 days, fly a minimum number of miles on flights operated by US Airways or American Airlines to keep your Preferred status through February 29, 2016. If your trial began on or before June 30, 2014, you'll maintain your Preferred status through February 28, 2015.

  • Silver: Fly 7,500 miles or 10 segments
  • Gold: Fly 15,000 miles or 20 segments
  • Platinum: Fly 22,500 miles or 30 segments
  • Chairman's: Fly 30,000 miles or 40 segments
If during the 90 days, a goal higher than your initial aim (as per $ paid) was achieved your status would be upgraded immediately.

Irrespective of your initial payment, you ongoing status would reflect the highest goal achieved during those three month.

Maybe something similar will be introduced for AAdvantage status,
