What cheeses me off

I did say link not merge.
Yes, hence my question. I was pondering why you thought it would stuff up one booking or the other?

OT, but you can easily book a return trip points one way and $$$ the other but I can’t recall seeing someone successfully merging seperate points and pay tickets. Even when QF delayed the restart of SFO and I had a return CR booked, they had to pay for a seperate LAX-SFO J ticket and weren’t able to reticket as one trip (points SYD-LAX pay LAX-SFO), so technically unprotected…

I've mentioned this here a few times and it would appear I'm the only one that cares and thinks this is wrong.

Make a fully refundable hotel booking but pay in full up front and hotel adds credit card surcharge. Cancel booking well inside cancellation period and hotel refunds hotel booking less credit card surcharge.

I know most credit card companies refund the surcharge but I didn't act quickly and it's past 90 days and credit card provider does not care.

How is this fair? I'm not given any choice when I pay and hotel keeps credit card surcharge. How is that fully refundable?

I've now learnt and if this ever happens again I'm not going to deal with Accor or the hotel and I'm going to raise a dispute on the transaction. Live and learn they say.

The Valentines Day commercial orgy of emails
- saucepans to cook for your loved one
- pest control to ensure your loved one has no surprises when they go out to the wood pile
- shampoo/conditioner to look your best on 14/2
- hotel specials for your and your significant other
- credit card specials to splurge on that ‘special day’

🤦‍♀️

It's been rather quiet on that front in Adelaide. I'm babysitting a five year old and two year old and I'm going to look a wreck by their bedtime. 😂

How is it fair to the accomodation provider? You changed your mind and the business incurred a cost in the original booking process levied by the card processor that isn’t refunded because a service has been provided (the processing of the payment).

I can’t think of a processor that refunds these fees, Amex was first with this policy but now all cards and others such as PayPal/Block inc etc dont

PayPal did until a couple of years ago, but not anymore.

Group meals .. mine including tip should have been £30, but as I didn't partake in the booze everyone else had the food was split and then drinks split. So, ok, it goes up to £36 for me. Not a big deal. Lady taking payments then ignored how to take the payments and just split evenly across the group so ended up at £46, so 50% more 😯

For a fully flexible booking payment should be taken when staying (not booked), or on the day of the stay as a 1 night penalty if not cancelled in time and a no show. I agree with John on this one.

In the case of Accor the requirement of prepayment is a hangover from the Mantra days before Accor took them over. Most of their brands allow you to book and not prepay so long as your happy to have the booking lapse at 6PM.

I agree having to make a payment for a fully flex is not great but the need to do it seems to be on the rise across various OTAs, and is a policy they prewarn about.

I know I should let it go, but just had a look at the bill and one person spent £52 on food just for themselves (plus booze on top), so they definitely came out ahead!

Mine were a lot more targeted. Such as need a lovely Ukrainian girl for Valentines Day? It did go to my spam folder though.

This p...s me off as well.

When we go out for an arranged so called "cheap and cheery" lunch or dinner with friends at a laminex tabletop Asian eatery and we order a main course with glasses of water and someone else in the group orders 2 courses and a bottle of wine and a liqueur coffee and ......, and then says lets just split the bill.

I am with you
I do not drink alcohol but with my closest friends have no drama with split bills. Some have dessert /some don’t/no one is out to rip me off
Anyone outside the inner sanctum I talk to ahead of time with a casual ‘how do we plan to split the bill?’ - before we eat and come to a consensus.

Aaaah!!
My partner and I have been together nearly 40 years and never celebrated this day.
If he suddenly started suggesting flowers and meals for Valentines Day I’d be suspicious he was looking to lift someone else’s case off the luggage carousel!
