QF to LHR via HKG now impossible

Like it or not, you can see what QF are trying to do with DXB hub and EK tie up. Like many other comments already, very disappointed QF has not provided any options for those wanting to transit through the great transit city of HKG. I had though AY codeshares via HEL would be available but alas, that is only via SIN. However you can easily get a AY issued and marketed flights via HKG/HEL.

Just have to book via an agent then to get SYD-HKG on QF, and HKG-LHR on CX or BA, or better still just go with CX all the way, if QFF points is not a big thing for you.

Agree CX all the way if unwilling to get out of the OW handcuffs, or give up on the idea of using QFF points and look at the other possibilities such as maybe fly Virgin Atlantic all the way SYD-HGK-LHR with VS if you really like HKG.

I am surprised you could get a JASA on BA metal - I thought it was QF and JQ only.

I am not sure why QF should be facilitating travel via HKG. It isn't their home port or home country. If in transit it is just another airport (albeit a very nice one). If stopping over QF can get you up there either on a BA ticket with connecting BA flights to the UK or two tickets - a JASA to H on QF in their lovely A380 and a separate paid J ticket or oneworld award ticket to LHR on either CX or BA.

Almost as strange as sending all traffic via Dubai, I'm not sure why they should be facilitating the world domination of EK and subsequently their own demise, but that opinion may be unpopular.

from what I have seen I could get BA on a JASA but at those very high 7 figure redemption rates which could be brought down by paying 1000's of dollars. Depending on class they booked into (U or D) you would either get no SCs and points or do get SCs and points

I think your opinion may be more popular than you think.

I'll be doing this twice this year, a concept I wouldn't even have given a look in prior to the announcement of the QF-EK tie-up.

Did you get the VA status match from your QFF tier level? I suspect this sort of comment is why VA did the status match a while back. There are some reports of the VS SYD-HKG-LHR on AFF somewhere but need a bit of digging to find them!

While QF no longer has the BA codeshares for HKG-LHR, BKK-LHR, SIN-LHR, it seems that BA has maintained codeshares on QF for some of the corresponding Asia-Australia legs for LHR-Australia long haul, eg BKK-SYD, SIN-MEL.

One can only assume who initiates these decisions.

Was recently on QF24 BKK-SYD. The PA welcomed OW partners from Finnair and AA, as well as EK. No mention of BA, despite this flight being codeshared as BA7314.

Because they think they can make money on it.

Good luck to them, they won't be getting any of mine.

Since the EK tie-up, my usual QF spend has been redirected to BA, AF and CX as I can no longer buy a QF ticket for my preferred routing.

I don't have anything against DXB, I just prefer to stop and do some business or have leisure time in Asia on my way to/from EU.

You win some, you lose some. Hopefully they win more than they lose. Increased sales are certainly indicating that to be the case. Just today I issued a QF ticket to Manchester, mostly codeshare, but in the past QF wouldn't have got a cent of that.

No, I recently dropped back to Lifetime Silver on QF, but almost Gold on VA and likely to be Platinum before the year is out. Virgin Atlantic flights becoming eligible for VA points and status was a clincher, I enjoy their Premium Economy and Upper Class.

I like to fly an airline with aircraft in the sky, not a virtual travel agent for EK.

I'm pretty sure their cut of EK marketed and code share revenue wouldn't be that substantial.

Don't we all, but its often impossible to find an airline that goes to every destination.

I still don't see what the problem is, as EK recognises QF status, and you being a QF WP you would get nice benefits on EK and first lounge in DXB. Not to mention you can still sit on QF metal all the way to LHR.

But I can't fly J/F to EU and stop in Asia, like I can on a handful of other carriers. I don't mind a CX/BA/AF sector onwards but I can't buy that any more.

I can't do business with my Asian contacts from DXB, I might as well stay at home or just fly right through.

I'm not buying two tickets as I get slogged by the airlines for various fees and higher fares.

So I'll simply direct my spend elsewhere, enough OW to keep my WP and any surplus to another programme.

Looking forward to BA's A380 delivery, CX continues to impress me, and I'm saving money too, so I guess it's not all bad. I am going to miss flying the 'roo though...

Unfortunately the airline can't be all things to all people. It is a business and whilst it now doesn't suit YOUR needs, it may suit the needs of many others. So it's time to move on and fly the other carriers as you see fit.
