Still no sign of the upgrade. At what time before the flight does the request become redundant? Flight departs at 1410 today.

If you ticked the appropriate box it can theoretically happen at the gate on boarding.

As I did it on the phone w' QF, I'm not sure which boxes were ticked.

Edit, yes I see that box is ticked, so still hoping.

If you didn't get the upgrade cleared the day prior the flight must be full up the front so for your upgrade to clear at the airport they would need commercial pax to noshow in J. For people who have opted in for an upgrade on the day like yourself you would know when the ground staff close the flight & finalise it which would not be earlier than one hour prior to departure but could be as late as 30 minutes prior. You could enquire in the lounge when you head for the gate or if the flight hasn't been finalised then ask the gate agent before you board.

Thanks. It was a fail today on QF7, right down to the gate. However, she did get into get upstairs in Y on the centre aisle with an empty next seat, just we 'we' wanted, so she's happy. It was a bit stressful trying to swing this. She asked for 36 in the centre hoping that she'd be the only one in the 3 seats, but someone already had it.

It's only a 'fail' if something should have happened but didn't. If there were J seats available you would've got them. Sometimes demand exceeds availability.
