Whilst op-ups may be common on Emirates on QANTAS they are rare. Even for top tier members the chance would be very low.

Points upgrades would be processed first. Op-ups will only be done if e.g. economy is oversold and not enough customers put in points upgrade requests to upgrade to premium cabin(s).

Great, thanks for your help. only a short flight so not sure I will bother as i'll probably only end up getting to premium then.

How will $270 and 4k points go for upgrade Per-Mel.... Go? Worth it?

Against 25k?

Only consider if you don't have the points.

^Mate seeking upgrade to experience the business class on the new QANTAS plane....

Just witnessed an instant op-up for an RC or Anglican archbishop on QF442 which is about to depart MEL...

I've had some love from the upgrade fairy recently - last month swmbo and I were upgraded BNE - MEL Y saver to J and recently swmbo, myself and the two rugrats upgraded MEL - PER Y saver to J (T-26ish). The kids were ecstatic as they'd never experienced J before, and it was the A330-200, so lie flat with all the trimmings. :D
Was very surprised to get 4 of us upgraded as only SG.

SYD-HKG QF127 (333) vs QF118 (388)

Considering a FlexY fare on QF127, with an upgrade lottery ticket. Because J suites. Alternatively, W is slightly more expensive than Y but if the upgrade does not clear than at least PE which is a plus. But if it does, then a SkyBed which is a minus. :-/

What's the consensus, are point upgrades on QF127/QF128 generally like transatlantic, or more reasonable chances? I am SG, travelling solo. (Was looking at 24.12.17 and 10.01.18)
