QF Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

No success
QF 30 HKG MEL 27 April
WP Y to J
5 seats available at T-36, no seats at T-24
SMS at T-10

A little surprising:
Nothing at T-60
No upgrade for WP on flexible ticket
They either sold those seats or somebody else got those upgrades.

I'm not complaining. Very grateful for the many upgrades I got in the past. Also I slept like a baby in Y and arrived very relaxed.
this is just a pure guess and opinion... i doubt it is others winning bids but you missed out, but more on the fact these flights are sold out in advance!

I can't book my return MIA-DFW-SYD-PER until June, but wonder what the consensus is for a likely upgrade. For the SYD-DFW and DFW-SYD sectors, is fully flex Y more likely to be upgraded to J over sale PE? Both seat types are about the same price. If Y is not booked out, I might still receive my shadow seat. Or should I purchase PE? Business class flights are just ludicrously expensive at the moment. Besides, I don't want to spend more on the flight than the actual holiday!

Well, what are the chances of Connor Rzee's knee being OK tonight despite being named?

You're possibly looking at shoulder to peak demand season and of course it will depend of your status next year, day of travel in terms of lijely J loadings, other pax mix of higher status etc.

Basically.. who can really know?

Tbh, I'd look to book the QF22/22 via MEL over the SYD flight as overall J demand seems lower on those sectors. Also the usual midweek travel may have less paid J, or say a Subday out of DFW maybe.

.really though, a year+ out... who can say?
.except that flex Y will be a huge boost to chances - ahead of nost in Y imo.

I'll still be WP. I fly to USA around January 1st-5th, return early June. I am only considering flex Y or sale PE, definitely not sale Y.

Just got text message saying upgrade was unsuccessful due to insufficient points, despite having more than enough points in the account. Kinda really upset about that 😢

Saw something online elsewhere that when linked to a business rewards account it sometimes tries to debit points from there instead.. not sure how accurate that is because that’s not my understanding of how this works.

Do you remember how you requested the upgrade? Was it potentially via QBR?

For a total noob to point upgrades, is there any strategy in choosing whether to apply for a W vs J upgrade on QF7? Would be happy with either, but would prefer whichever has a higher probability that staying in Y 😂 QF Gold for what it’s worth.

You can apply for W if J does not come through when you make the request.

Does a free upgrade count for this thread?

QF41 got randomly upgraded as WP.
Partner (booked separately) didn't get anything.
Check in agent didn't even say anything at MEL.
Only noticed the upgrade when I looked at the BP.
Load is not full at all.

My current seat now has a block on it on EF.

I have seen a few reports of these recently. Both on this forum and in the FB groups. Appears QF are occasionally doing "complimentary upgrades" even to WP (not just P1).

Did your BP have a message on it saying complimentary? I've seen photos of BP with messages such as complimentary or happy birthday printed on it.

Had this on it.

I think we had a trainee check in staff at MEL (dom - Int) he didn't notice it at all and as it was my second flight i didn't either until i wanted to take another gander at seata and saw my BP said 3A.
