Hello,

I've recently been fortunate enough to have a random work trip from MEL-DXB-AMS pop up ... the entire return trip is in EK J.

Now, please correct me if I am wrong here ... EK flight number on EK metal for QF WP = zero status credits, and a reduced points earn rate ... lounge access to QF First in available though (??).

Does anyone have any tips or tricks that they can suggest? I'm not an EK Skywards member, and most of my flying is domestic, therefore I don't believe there is any value in crediting there ...

Any thoughts?

ALSO - obviously being a corporate trip, this has been flicked over to a travel agent to arrange - am I reasonably correct in assuming that EK offer better commissions to local travel agents versus QF ... I had a similar experience last year with another trip where the travel agent wanted everyone on UA from MEL-LAX ... most in the group were QFF Gold or Platinum, and in the end anyone who spoke up was booked on the QF flight, whilst anyone else flew UA.

Thanks

yes you will get lounge access for QF or EK on departure from MEL (if on evening departure will be able to get into MEL 1st class lounge) and then also first class lounge in Dubai (hopefully concourse A is suitable for your transit).

In terms of FF, yes if it is EK flight numbers than only QF points, no status credits. If you do want to join skywards you will get more points and status credits but they will be in the EK program and only other advantage is free wifi

Also DXB F lounge during transit. Bummer you can’t get it with QF codes?

Okay - some advice and questions ...

1. The booking shows up on my Qantas account, but on the EK 'Manage my Booking' page it doesn't record my QFF number, nor does it let me enter it (see below).
2. If I sign up to Skywards and enter a Skywards member number - does that preclude me from DXB F lounge access during transit with the QFF Platinum status?

Advice / thoughts / tips and tricks please ??

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Can't answer the questions you have asked, but if you are on an EK ticket with high QF status you do get a massive baggage allowance - useful to some but not others

You are correct that you will earn zero SC, and maybe 8,000FFPts. I have had huge issues trying to sort out FF# with EK. If you put your QFF# first, then that is it. Even phone calls to EK don't seem to be able to change it.

On the positive side I have had excellent recognition of WP status on boarding and during the flight, and in the EK lounges.

Mind my ignorance though - but how do I have that WP status recognised if my QFF# isn't attached per above on the EK side of the booking (??).

I tried to change the FF# in EK MMB without luck, and in the end had to ring EK. As so often is the case with matters of frequent flying, it took more than one call.

P.S. WP card recognised at the lounges.
