I could possibly do Monday night if the location is close to or in the CBD. TBC.
Absolutely @serfty. I don't want to be travelling too far the first night...I'm getting up at 3am for a 5am flight. I'll need my sleep and getting back to bed early will be on my mind....

Something close to Flinders Street Station or one of the other city train stations would work well for me.

As I'm at the DoubleTree, anywhere reasonably close by (easy walk) works well for me. Anybody with suggestions (I seem to recall a couple of AFF dinners in laneways at reasonably priced restaurants)

Hey whoa back a meter bucko - I have been away 10 days I seriously have no idea what I will be told I am doing next week

Don't give people choice - build it and they will come.

Tazio has recently expanded their pasta and mains (grill) menu. Some reasonable options at AFF-friendly price points.

Otherwise the Olive Tree is always good, but some of you would need to catch a tram to get there.

Is Tazio BYO? OT may be getting boring for some peeps - not me - I am there Sat 30th anyway for XMAS nosh up

I just had a look at the Tazio venue. There are a couple of items I like the look of. I could probably walk there from Flinders Street Station. I read about the legendary gatherings at Olive Tree but it's not easy for me to get there.

OT works OK for me as I can get a tram from the door direct to South Yarra Station.

The new Tazio is OK, albeit with a walk.

Only caveat is Public transport - there's plenty of work going on with buses replacing trains at various times - currently OK... just ...

@LinaLee, I like the sound of Arbory Afloat after reviewing the website. Very handy for public transport options. However it isn't BYO (for those that may wish that option).

I've done some research this evening. Seems Taxi Kitchen (Melbourne Modern Australian Restaurant - Taxi Kitchen Federation Square) allows both: "BYO (wine only) allowed for groups up to 10 guests" but corkage is $20 per bottle. Beverages here: https://www.transporthotel.com.au/t.../09/Taxi-Kitchen-Wine-List-SEPTEMBER-2019.pdf
Also adjacent to Flinders Street Station and via tram 1, 8, 16, 64, 70, 72 and 75. Seems a nice view and a decent reasonably priced menu: https://www.transporthotel.com.au/t...s/sites/3/2019/11/TK-Main-Menu-01.11.2019.pdf

Alternatively, Emelia http://www.emiliamelbourne.com.au/menu. Wine list: http://www.emiliamelbourne.com.au/drink, noting "Corkage available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday only, for groups under 8 people, $15 per bottle". No view and a couple of blocks from Flinders Street station.

Ah, decisions decisions. Not easy being from out of town.

@QF WP , they look like excellent choices too especially if BYO option is available. Since you’re the visitor I’ll let you decide for me ( not speaking for the rest tho 😬😬). I’m sure the food will be fine at any one of them as they all look yummy.

Taxi kitchen is just a bit further along the Yarra with a view to the MCG. Hopefully the weather holds. You’ll be able to appreciate the later sunset.

Tazio has not been BYO for about a decade, but I can ask them if you like.

The Olive Tree is great value (and BYO), but it is out of the CBD, so those AFFers from across town would need to change to a tram in the CBD.

Arbory Afloat is fun, but I don't think I would eat there.

Taxi & Bar Margaux get votes from me, although the bill can add up very quickly at these venues (especially given the length of their wine lists). Having been told off in the past for suggesting "expensive" places, this caveat has been made.

Knowing you as I do, I appreciate your comments @penegal. I agree about the Olive Tree (having eaten there twice now). That's why I am leaning towards Emelia - CBD, Italian (everybody should be able to find something to eat), BYO with moderate corkage.

I've booked for 8 at 6.30pm and see how close we get. If we get more, time to book a second table. Arrival anytime from 6pm fora pre-dinner drink and catch-up.

Venue information:
Rear of 360 Little Collins Street, in Gills Alley. A short walk from the corner of Elizabeth St towards Queen St
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL DINNER BOOKINGS PRIOR TO 7PM ARE ALLOCATED A 2 HOUR SITTING.

Have updated the details iin post #1

I've had a look at the menu. I think I'll have the lamb rump with chips instead of vegetables. I can't find the prices for standard soft drinks like Coke and Lemonade but if they don't have them I'll just have water (not the fancy bottled stuff).

I like basic food without condiments. I'm coming to share stories with the great company, not for the food and drink.

I like the location. I should be able to walk there easily from Flinders Street.

So that's the Monday?

What's Tuesday? :p

What are the billing arrangements and does anyone know if they are in the Entertainment Book. I have a book buried somewhere in the house.
