I also recall a statistic that there is an 80% chance of having a doctor on a flight? Does QF pre-identify these people?

I believe so. If they know someone with a title Dr/Prof is a doctor, there is an extra symbol on their boarding card (and presumably on the passenger manifest).
My Uncle is a medical doctor, and has been called on in-flight to attend to other passengers. He has mentioned to me the symbol on his boarding card (can't remember if it's an asterisk or triangle or what) and his conclusion that it identifies him as a medical doctor.

I don't have any symbols on my boarding pass but it does say "Dr". Have it on my FF card in the hope of scoring an op-up. Hasn't worked so far. Not had any exciting medical emergencies but a few boring ones on domestic flights

Don't think I'd want to respond, looking at that required medical equipment list  I can think of a whole lot more stuff I'd need to be even vaguely comfortable taking charge on a midair emergency

Wont go into details, but QF have a much more extensive Physician's Kit onbard all their aircraft that would enable a medical doctor to treat a patient.

Definitely nothing extra on my BPs and i have dealt with a few in air emergencies including on QF.

*shrug* Then I can only guess my uncle was mistaken on the symbol, it was something from ages ago (it's been at least 2 years since I remember him saying that), or I'm completely mistaken in my memory of that conversation. :)

I work on the basis that boring is good - keep it up

The FAA also recommends an advanced kit such as the stat kit 600 which seems to be quite comprehensive from a laymans view, at $600 it would appear to be a good investment:
