[h=2]Qantas reducing A380 service to USA[/h]
Wednesday, 8 August 2012
Qantas plans to reduce A380 frequency on Sydney-Los Angeles service from daily to three times weekly, between August 2012 and September 2012 as the carrier is reconfiguring the aircraft from 450 to 484 seats.

QF12 LAX-SYD changed to 747 on 7 Nov

Hi all,
Booked QF12 LAX-SYD (7 Nov) connecting to QF 571 SYD-PER (9 Nov).
Just found out that the aircraft was downgraded from the A380 to the 747.

I specifically chose this flight for the A380 - could have had an extra hour in LA if I had taken QF108 or having an easier transit via MEL instead of SYD (no transfer bus).

Airlineroute says the 747 is from 01AUG12 to 30SEP12 only, no mention about November.

Any chance I can change the flight to go via MEL on the 380 instead? The new config 747 might not be too bad (travelling in Y) but from what I've read here I wouldn't be able to tell.

Booked a sale fare so no changes permitted from my side.

Thanks all

There have been comments made by people who have called QF, and have been able to change onto a 380 operated flight.

QF12 has four classes on sale, so I would imagine you would have an older 747 with the F cabin.

I'd give them a call to see what your options are.

Give them a call - they seem happy to change to another day, but rerouting you via MEL may be hard to ask for. Call them anyway, you never know if you don't ask.

Just gave them a call and I'm now on QF94/769! Had to ask for the specific flight though - they wanted to put me on QF777 at first. Anyway I'm happy!

My QF11 flight was downgraded to a non-reconfigured B744. QF rang me a few days ago to offer me alternative flights if I really wanted to be on the A380. Changed to a day later with no fees.

Reviving old thread incase I've missed something searching...

Am on QF11 15th August SYD-LAX. Had a points upgrade from J to F
Qantas just rang me to tell me an aircraft change to 747.

I wrongly assumed all the 747s left now were refurbed until I read this thread.
Looking at my seating selection map on Qantas website all the layouts for the 747 - it does indicate to me that I will still be on a plane with First Class.
Does thing sound true to anyone?

Anyone else on same flight??

Thanks!!

Qantas have two or three F equipped birds, the often do HKG as well.

ahhhh ok. Well I'll play it by ear. Wasn't sure if should ask them to push me back a day.
Im happy with a refurbed 747, just didn't want the non-refurb ones.

Are there other ways to check as the date approaches?

Refurb = no chance of an upgrade to F...

Seat map will tell you the cabin age.

It's an old 747 with F......good idea to change days - me thinks!

I would change, it's non refurb on the seatmap.

Re: QF12 LAX-SYD changed to 747 on 7 Nov

Hi all,

Just found out that the aircraft was downgraded from the A380 to the 747.

When I look at the same QF12 flight on 7-Nov, the Qantas info says Airbus 380, and shows 2 different A380 seat maps.

How do I check what flights are on a 380 vs 747? None of the QF11/12 flights I looked at (flying last week Sep) said anything other than A380 on the Qantas web page. Maybe I need to check an external website (eg what is "Airlineroute"?)

Excellent thanks guys. I'll call them up and see if they will shift me forward a day..

I subscribe to expertflyer......worth every cent.

Re: QF12 LAX-SYD changed to 747 on 7 Nov

I just checked Expertflyer (non-subscriber) and it says the 7-Nov flight and my flights in September have the A380.
  • Qantas site and Expertflyer both say A380
  • Qantas has directly communicated with booked passengers for some dates (including 7-Nov) to say that the A380 is now a 747

So my questions remains, how do you find out what flights are actually on an A380? Right now, it would appear that the information available on both Qantas and Expertflyer sites is incorrect.

Re: QF12 LAX-SYD changed to 747 on 7 Nov

If both Expertflyer and Qantas.com indicate the flights relevant to your booking are 388 / 380 then that means they have had that aircraft loaded onto the GDS's as being operated by A380-800's.

It could be as basic as they have not loaded the changes.

Hmmm expert flyer is showing A380 for the 7th......has always been accurate.

I'll leave it to one of the experts to make the call on which one is correct.
