Hi everyone, flying QF12 JFK>LAX>SYD and wondering from past experience if any of you have had time to visit the lounge/have a shower during the stopover at LAX or is it literally running from one plane to the next? Flying in J.

Thanks so much!

There are 90 mins scheduled between the arrival from JFK and the departure to SYD. However the SYD aircraft is already at LAX getting ready to depart.
If the flight from JFK is on time, you'll have time to visit the lounge and maybe eat something before the flight to SYD boards, but you likely won't have time for a shower.
If JFK is delayed, the only delay the SYD flight has is transferring baggage from the JFK aircraft.

Last time I was on QF12, they called boarding for SYD maybe 5 minutes after the JFK inbound arrived at the gate.

No I don't think there is time.

And, at this time the lounge can be crowded and sometimes you are given a buzzer for the shower and have to wait your turn.

I don't like your chances as boarding would be starting just after you flight get in.

I’ve never not got a buzzer on a flight home from LAX. It’s always busy.

I was on QF16 on Friday night (which turned out to be 0220 Saturday departure) - the QF12 from JFK was delayed significantly, and in my observation has been on many occasions. I wouldn't bank on time for a shower

Was on QF12 the other week. Delayed out of JFK. Had to go straight from one aircraft to the other....to then wait on the ground for another two hours. Sigh.

Have your shower at JFK instead. The showers are decent enough there in the AA flagship first lounge.

Yes, that's the plan now! The AA flagship lounge sounds quite nice (well, compared to other AA lounges at least!). Looks like this is going to be a loooong flight back to Syd!

Thanks everyone for your tips :)

Let me help. Temper you're expectations of the lounge. It's certainly better than the regular AA lounges but about on par with the QFi SYD J lounge. I found it rather crowded too. If you have PP membership, I can highly recommend using it at Bobby Van's which is just outside the lounge.

Im doing the SYD LAX JFK run in a few months myself.
I was hoping to shower at LAX in both directions. Although on the way back i am going from QF12 to QF16 so its the same plane so should give me a bit more time to shower. See how i get on.

Good luck on your shower quest! Travel safe!

I had a shower a couple of months ago on the same flight. I was in PE and dashed straight to the lounge where a shower was ready, but when I exited the shower there was a waiting list to use them. I only had time for 1 drink before boarding commenced.
