They have every right to recline so why would you "make sure they have a bad flight". Sounds very vengeful......
Not vengeful at all.

- I can't watch the IFE properly at that angle as I need to be sitting upright and almost leaning forward for that length of time. If I can't watch the IFE then I will get up and go for regular walks.
- With seat in front reclined I can't get out of my seat I will put my hands on head rest and use seat for support to be able to get up. Or should I be considerate and try to find another way?
- If I my knees happen to be stuck in the seat in front sometimes then it is not my fault nor is it intentional.

Again this is not vengeful just facts of my life. Perhaps I should not fly at all just in case. And then again I need to ensure I pre-allocate bulkhead and hope (more like pray) that some numbskull does not stuff up my original seat allocation....

Let's not start the reclining debate again but the next time someone even remotely attempts to recline into my space (if I am unfortunate not to have a bulkhead and cannot preselect exit row even if I have to pay for it) I will try to make sure they have a bad flight as well and feel my pain....

Note to self.... make sure you get those seat requests in early and check seat maps that bulkhead and/or exit rows are available before purchasing flights....

Note to self: Suggest Qantas introduces a new seating preference: "In front of JohnK"

Another reason why the reclining debate will never be fair. A recliner is entitled to recline but a non-recliner cannot have any expectations to have the space in front of them free and thereby having less space on the flight.

Thanks for the seat comments. Pros and cons for bulkhead or not. Looks like a toss of the coin is in order!!

Not true, you could fly on the jetstar aircraft that dont recline. :p

Seriously, I find it incredible you would actively try and make someone's flight unpleasant just because you dont think they should recline. The seat they have "purchased" as defined by the airline reclines. So they should be entitled to recline.

Your opions are:
1) As above, try and find an airline with fixed seats.
2) Pay (!) for a higher class of cabin
3) try for exit row / bulkhead (which on most carriers now for exit row = pay a fee).
4) request the seat in front of you be left empty (where loadings permit).

Tell me about it! Exactly that has happened to me for QF20 on 8/1. I have sent them a fairly loud raspberry about this, along with some unsubtle hints that a few sweeteners might be in order.

Well, I got home last night and in the mail is a letter postmarked "203 Coward St" containing just such a sweetener! Probably bad form to say exactly how much, but more than Ric (post #19) got. Obviously my hints weren't too subtle...but it is nice to see that they do take notice.

Good on ya! My son also did get good monetary compensation but I didn't mention it in my post. But as you said, it's good that they do take notice.

QF is quite adverse to bad publicity these days!

My 333 from SIN-PER got subbed to a 763. Sent QF an email, but received no reply. It has been over 15 working days

Personally I don't mind 23AK. I prefer it over the recline in my face option.

And what did you say or ask? Given the A380 debacle, it's not as QF had a choice about subbing aircraft all across the network.....

Just that I was expecting AVOD on the aircraft as when I booked the flight, it was an A333 but instead got that old projector screen. (it was very blurry to the point it was unwatchable, more blurry than what it should be). I know they did nothing against their T&Cs but I should have paid the extra $70 or so and chosen SQ.

That's why I told my son to just take the offered J seat and not make any fuss about it. The situation is quite understandable. He was pleasantly surprised that upon check in, he was handed an envelope..............:D

While I suspect QF is not listening (or looking) I am still of the opinion that the A330s that fly international should have a Y+ section. Especially given the percentage of overnight flights that use them. PER-HKG as well as SYD-HKG come to mind. And I assume when the 767s finally do get retired PER-NRT.

And I for one am willing to pay for T class a lot more quickly than B.

YMMV as you wander

While it may sound like a good idea do you think the demand will be there? Or is likely to result in decreased business class bookings?

Also these aircraft usually have full(ish) economy cabins and to replace economy class seats with premium economy seats will possiblly result in lost sales.

Will be interesting to see what happens when the 787 finally becomes available.

QF just replied with a $100 voucher. Not complaining, but at least they thought it was worth the $33.33 per person.

Ugh this is one of most hated actions - I never have the need to pull up on someone elses head rest and find it very annoying that people do this!

So I ask again. How am I supposed to get out of my seat with the seat in front fully reclined? Any helpful advice? Should I try to slide out and then sort of turnover and end up on my knees on the floor?

The only way I can get out is to stand up straight using either the head rest in front or my armrest for support. If the seat in front is fully reclined I cannot use my armrest as I cannot get out of seat. So are you saying I should forget about my pain and discomfort and worry about how the person in front is going to react for 10 seconds while I use the head rest for support? Or should I just stay in my seat?

Now this used to happen to me many times in the early days and a lot of times I used to sit in the second row of economy and the seat in front in bulkhead/exit row fully reclined. Luckily these days I am able to pre-allocate bulkhead or exit row and the person behind me can have a great flight.

In all circumstances I stand up by pushing up using my arm rest - I never pull myself up the head rest in front.
