Just to finish off for me.
At check in, I asked for and got a pass to the Miriscor lounge. A bit grotty, but food offerings looked OK and basic sprits and soft drinks. Bathroom, although not all that inviting. Wi fi easy to get on to.

In future I would go to the Miriscor, then to CX immediately before flight.

Rooflyer can you provide more info about the Miriscor lounge, like its location? I know nothing about it and would like to check it out on my next trip.

It is near gate 9 (in the opposite pier to the one QF normally use). The only way you will get in now if you are flying QF is if you receive a pass at checkin; I suspect this is limited to Platinums. It used to be accessible via Diners, but I think this no longer applies.

If they don't give you a pass at check in you can also get a pass for the MIASCOR lounge by going to the Qantas lounge and asking to have shower. The QF lounge doesn't have showers so they will give you a pass to the MIASCOR lounge to go have one there.

That's crafty! What's offered at the MIASCOR shower - ie soaps etc, or is it just water and a towel?

I did the SYD-MNL-SYD a couple of weeks ago and was perhaps not as lucky with the queues - huge line up outside the airport just to get in, again they want to x-ray all your bags but no-one was even watching the screen!

QF Bus check-in was only 1 person but the line for economy must have been over 100 people deep (half way across the airport) - poor buggers.

Then yes the queue to pay your departure tax, the queue for immigration and then the queue for another pointless security check (men in one line and women in another)

I just went to the QF 'lounge' but that is another story and thread perhaps (with photos)

Then another huge queue to get your hand baggage searched and another pat-down, I have not been frisked as much since the US!

I don't mind the queues so much and have only had to suffer a long wait once at immigration and that was whilst my wife was pregnant thankfully we asked for assistance and could go through the priority queue on the right hand side although that still took a long time.

With the hand baggage check I just make sure I'm one of the last to leave to Qantas lounge and there queue is only 1 or 2 people and very quick to get through.

Likewise.. & so to avoid that 'holding pen" downstairs.
I find that most of the security is overkill & antiquated at NAIA MNL airport, it appears so much of a weak facade & very inconsistent standards.
It would be so much easier to have one thorough streamlined security checkpoint for departing passengers, much the same as most of the International terminals throughout Asia.
I guess the paranoia left over from the shoe-bomber saga still haunts the authorities.

It's large bathroom but only 1 toilet means there is usually always people waiting as more people arrive for their QF20 flight.
You have to be careful not to use too much toilet paper as it will easily clog.

Well, one toilet is one more than the CX lounge has (along with several other lounges). The moral is: blame the airport, not Qantas.

Yep. On the 'regular' security point, with x-ray machines and metal detector, there was not a single eyeball watching the bag x-ray machine monitor when my gear went through.

I beeped going through the walk-through metal detector (not sure why), but survived the pat-down OK.

I found both the QF and CX lounges quite poor in MNL. The CX lounge is OK but can get very crowded before a flight especially the F lounge section. At least there are a couple of desktops. The food options can be quite good at times.

I have also flown out of there in TG business and forget which lounge I used but that was fairly basic but the big bonus for me are the desktops available for use. Appeared to have a better range of food than the QF, CX lounges.
