Has anyone flown QF5 SYD-PER? I'm flying it as a domestic route later this month and not going onto Rome.

Keen to hear:
Process of collecting the boarding pass (assuming it needs to be printed/do they need to ID you too?)
Is the economy or business meal more superior than a 737 or 330 meal (I E. Different catering?)
Have you had any problems finding a lane not going through the smart gates?

Not QF5 but QF9, same deal.

Check in at the international terminal, you'll get a boarding pass with a "D" sticker. You do need ID (DL is fine).

Catering is international standard, so both Y and J much better than domestic.

There will be a special lane at the smart gates for domestic pax - do not try to go through the normal gates, it won't work.
 
Hi. Flew QF5 last Wednesday. Even though you can check in online you still need to re-check at a Qantas check in desk. They will issue you a boarding pass with an orange D sticker on it. You need to present id to the check in agent (drivers license will do, passport also works) and you have to sign the sticker. You need to present this to an immigration agent as you go through immigration- ie you cannot use smart gate. This means you line up with others even if you have priority but the line was short when I flew. Make sure you don’t lose your boarding pass as you have to do the reverse process when you get to Perth.

And food. I was in business and it was a lot better than the domestic food I’ve eaten lately.

You'll need to check in at a staffed counter to get your D sticker on the boarding pass, they'll fill it out and it gets stamped on the way through.

I thought people had learned not to post their boarding pass barcodes online these days... oops.
That photo is blury enough that I can't read it (let me know if you can), regardless I agree there should be a massive push by airlines/travel sites not to share boarding passes.

After scanning my latest JQ boarding pass it's enough to reveal name, passport number, booking reference. The booking reference can be used on the JQ website to pull up booking including phone, email, price for ticket paid but also the ability to even change my return flight.

Even single oneway flights that have since been flown are not good to post due to the name, email and phone number still showing in the booking.
 
Same for QF 9/10. Worth doing if times work for you. Remember they are all subject to INT flight rules.

As a WP, I've had a J seat released on QF9 when no U was showing.
I travel between Perth and Melbourne fairly frequently and always try to book QF9/QF10 when I can. It's just a nicer experience.

I'd normally be all for this given everything is better plus F lounge access in SYD if WP. However, if immigration and security queues are anything like I experienced a few weeks ago at SYD T1, then I'd rather take a 737 from the domestic terminal than deal with the pain of T1.
 
My seat release was pre-Covid, so no issues with security and immigration. The world is now different...😠

Curiously, the article claims that QF J checkin issued an “Express Path” card to access the F/J security line (on 19 July). I flew out to SIN on QF81 on the 25th and they definitely were not offered to this QF WP travelling in whY (and I did ask also).

I might have somewhere an old, slightly bent one like in the photo…😏 but didn’t bother to take it based on reports of only F/J BPs….

I'm sure the authors on ET/PH/similar websites are seasoned enough travellers to know not to put a readable barcode up. Anyway, the focus blur makes it unreadable.

SYD no longer uses Express Path. I was told by SYD airport authority this is because the airlines don't want to pay for it. SYD airport does offer a different security screen lane to pax in J or F.

On July 14 I asked the QF J check-in agent (WP travelling in whY) if they could get me into the J security line. No can do.

So I'd suggest simply shoddy journalism in that article if they're referencing Express Path cards.

Exactly! My post was a subtle attempt to call BS…

If you look at the article, he has a photo of a slightly crumpled “Express Path” card - I presume that was gathering dust during lockdown…
