Anyone know what happened to QF566 out of PER yesterday? Mrs Batesy was meant to be on it but got moved to other flights via MEL. Looking at QF departures its still in PER, one of the old 743's.

It's down as departing at 7.41 this morning. From what I can see it left and returned to the gate yesterday. Its hard to know sometimes on that flight and a delay that long how much was fixing a technical fault and how then followed by the crew going out of hours.

QF577, the midday departure from SYD-PER, wasn't due into PER until 0015 this morning. These two flights (QF566) might be operated by the same aircraft. Both are 743s. I was on the 7pm SYD-PER last (Friday) night. On Thursday night EF was indicating quite a light load but because of the 577 delay it was full to the brim.

There seems to always be delays with the 743s.

Was it this one?

No Qantas staff so passengers left on plane : thewest.com.au

Qantas has apologised to more than 200 passengers who were forced to wait on a plane on the tarmac of Perth Airport for nearly three hours early on Saturday morning because no staff were on duty at the terminal.

The delay was made worse because the passengers had already had to wait eight hours to board the plane because of a mechanical fault.

One passenger, who asked to remain anonymous, said by the time people disembarked just after 4am, most had been awake nearly 24 hours.

Yep. Thats the flight. Lucky I rang Mrs Batesy when I noticed it was having a lengthy delay. If I had not called her and told her to check her messages she would have been on this plane. QF had called her already to move her to different flights via MEL.

QF566 (4.15pm was also cancelled on Sunday 25 May. I was booked on the flight but got a nice courtesy call from the Perth Qantas Club at 8.45am to say "just to let you know, QF566 looks like running a little late this afternoon. It's not looking too bad at the moment but from experience it can be quite late." The agent offered to move move to the 2.10pm departure which I took. Ended up in the middle seat on a 737. Not a pleasant flight but the agent's call in the morning was much appreciated.

Another black mark for the 743s.

Its a pity the 743's are so unreliable, they are the best flying experience across the continent, particularly from SYD to PER which can be uncomfortable in a 5 hour stint in a little 737. I wonder if QF will delopy 744's on this route once the A-380s are making up a large part of the fleet.

A few Melbourne customers yesterday would agree with the 743 comment, as the mess affected MEL flights with cancellations, not sure how they managed to fit 743 pax on the 7.40PM flight onto the 737 an hour later, I suspect some had the pleasure of the JQ service.

Nope, they will be replaced by A332's, with SYD-PER (and MEL-PER) being operated by 330's and 767's.

I couldn't agree more. I deliberately avoid the 5.50pm SYD-PER service on the 737. Coming back from Perth on Sunday on one of these was not an enjoyable experience. I'm disappointed, though, that the A332s will not have PTVs.

And it's no better from Mel.

I was on QF481 from Mel to Per on Sunday night. fortunately, got a call from QF to say it was running about 4.5 hours late. I was able to quickly switch to MEL - ADL - PER.

However, not so lucky last night. Was on QF 776 coming back. Was delayed about 2 hours (1.20am arrival into Mel not so nice).

However, could have been worse - QF802 (one of the 743s), being the 1pm service from PER - MEL was still at the airport when we flew out last night.

They loaded everyone on to the 743 and taxied but returned. Apparently, even once they knew it wasn't going anywhere, they didn't unload the pax until we had departed b/c they wanted to avoid mass panic/rush to get onto QF 776 (which was half empty).

I can understand the thinking, but I would have been really pissed if I had been on QF 802 !

Is there no chance of QF ever flying into/out of PER with any degree of proximity to the schedule ??????

I'm sure this is also VERY frustrating for QF and if they have other a/c (as promised by manufacturers) they would be using them. Really it's the best of a bad situation all around.

Imagine what it is costing them at every level.

I completely agree.

I understand that the first of the 743s is due to be retired in the next 2 months when the first new airbus comes onto the MEL - PER route (but not holding my breath)

QF had issues with 767 metal last week that also resulted in flight cancellations, its just that the 743s are more obvious because there is less of them!

Guess whose 767 flight ex Perth is now delayed, must be karma! Its never a good sign when they take the tow bar off your aircraft.

Should not be surprised, the flight is operated by OGA - which is coming up to its 20th birthday in August!

There seems to be several delays associated with Perth today but not to the extent of the past few days.

More 743 problems tonight out of MEL. Stuck in the QP, the same flight, 481 was due to depart at 1940, now estimated at 2100. They just had an announcement that the other 2 per flights leaving in the meantime are fully booked, so basically don't try asking to be shifted.

Now 2130 apparently.. I will believe it when I see it..

Since you did not post further i would assume your eaither too drunk for drinking while waiting.... or thet plane did leave some time in the last couple of hours :)

yes 2130 was about accurate.. not a spare seat on the plane. some passengers were trying to get the 6am flight, apparently every seat was taken on that flight too.

see what happens when you have a public holiday here, but nowhere else?
