OK.
I am due to fly on QF 3 to HNL - a 10 hr flight - this Friday which to my horror is a 767.
With all these recent news reports about "near-misses" with QF, many of which involve these type of planes.
I have always felt safe with Qantas but am starting to feel very insecure about this upcoming flight, so much so that I am contemplating cancelling.

Is all this being blown out of proportion or should I really be worried about my safety on a 767??

There may need to be a new category of TR, when they feature in major news bulletins. ;)

*grin*

lisa31jane, welcome to AFF! I wouldn't worry, what it does outline that if there are any problems QF are prompt in picking them up and fixing them, rather than waiting till it's too late. You'll be fine.

Feeling calmer now, thanks Flashware.

The Australian website now reports the origin of the smoke/smell to a faulty oven in the galley!

So long as I reach BNE in time for a round of golf tomorrow morning, I don't care!
I take it you have a late tee time or the 0718 arrival of QF652 precluded said golf ...

Flashware - I still reckon you should've screamed like a little girl about how scary it all was to all and sundry. That'd guaranteed celebrity status on ACA/Today Tonight/NoNewsLtd. ;)

Ah well given the emergency disembarkation I think we will have to concede that this was in fact an emergency :(

I wouldn't mind getting a definition of what "mid-air" means - in the middle of the air? The mid-point between what and what?

Frankly I am bored of these "events".

I do not understand why people are stressing about safety - in all circumstances I believe that there has been no loss of life and the pilots have all done exactly what they should do. People should feel safer.

Yes QF has an aging fleet but to a certain extent they can't be blamed for that - if Airbus and Boeing had achieved their delivery schedules there would be an extra 6-7 A380s in the air and a few 787's on the way. The 743's would gone and the 763 flying domestic rather than long haul.

Hey guys, just up in the QP at the moment.

45 minutes into the flight, an electrical fault was detected and caused fumes down the back of the plane, which cycled through to the captain's deck causing them to need oxygen.

As a safety precaution the flight was turned around, and here I am now in the lounge waiting further information.... plenty of flashing lights and fire trucks around. Exciting, but annoying!!

claim for the extra points cause of the double back.

Have submitted through QF... lets see what happens. Given it had my AA number on it, and the 2nd flight did credit, I'm not hopeful.
