Thanks Matt, is there any difference between the older 747 and the new 747? (apart from the older cabin?) If so what are they?

The main difference you'll notice in economy is that the in-flight entertainment system is older, with a more limited range of movies. That and the self-service snack bar found at the back of the plane on the newer 747s is missing. But otherwise, it's perfectly fine.

Personally from what's available I would choose 40 A& B if they were available to me.
I like bulkhead seats and I don't like being down the back.
Which just shows how personal seat preferences are!

Keep in mind that row 40 will be directly over the wing - which means you won't get as good a view of Antarctica!

I am returning to Australia tomorrow (Sunday 22/11/15) on the QF64. Do you have an idea on the status of the plane? I.e new cabin or old style?

According to EF it is an old style 744 with the old F seats.

As per the reply above, the flight is currently scheduled as a 747 with old style seats. It will most likely be operated by VH-OJM.

I'm assuming that there are two of you, and you're in economy? If you haven't already picked your seats, I recommend choosing 70A and 70B which are currently vacant.

QF63 to Johannesburg will be the newer style 747 tomorrow (10 December). By the way, I also notice that economy is sold out on this flight.

I'm not sure what you mean by Sunday 10 December. Do you mean Sunday 10 January?
