Hey,

Silver member. Booked for QF642 this Friday, Y class. Attempted to request an upgrade using the app and get "Upgrade not available. Unfortunately, you are not eligible to request an upgrade on this flight."

First time I've seen that message. There aren't any classic reward seats available so I didn't like my changes even if I could make the request. Anyone know why I wouldn't be eligible?

Other weird thing is I can't select a specific seat, only aisle/window preference.

Thanks

All domestic Qantas fares are eligible for an upgrade to business upgrade aside from codeshare flights (I.e. flight with an AA flight number but operated by QF).

One reason you might be seeing that error is you simply don’t have enough points to request the upgrade. For a classic award booking, you’ll need to have 28,300 points in your account, for discount economy that goes down to 27,200 points and lastly for Flexible economy bookings that’s 10,900 points. And that’s per passenger. So if you got multiple passengers on your itinerary you need to multiply those figures by the number of passengers on the ticket.

200k+ points available atm. Also would have expected a more specific error message if it were an insufficient points issue

Even on a new booking the seat map is blocked out - it will assign you a seat but you can't change it.

I'd say the flight is very full.

Is it a government booking by chance?

hmm, definitely possible. Booking status in the app shows as "Confirmed". Corporate booking so no idea if payment has been processed.
Confirmed on the App does not at all indicate that it’s ticketed.

I would say the Corp TA hasn’t issued the ticket yet and that’s why you can’t request it.

hmm damn. The itinerary has an e-ticket number next to the Qantas booking reference but now I don't trust anything. Might be the TA's e-ticket number for all I know. lol

Is there a definitive indicator of ticket status?

e-ticket number? 081xx_x???? if so that's a QF ticket number, or do you mean the corp TA's booking reference?

If it's a 13 digit number beginning 081- it's a Qantas number.

Not being ticketed was the reason I could think of

This was basically the answer. Not enough points because no FF associated with the booking.

It clicked when I tried to upgrade using a desktop browser and the website asked me to specify my relationship to the passenger. I will admit that I looked through the drop-down menu for something like "My father's son".

After updating the booking, it still gave me the same error in the app. Upgrading via the website worked fine though.

Interestingly, after adding my FF number, I was able to choose a seat. I also had a better selection for the return flight, although that could have been coincidence.
