QF7 often delayed

I flew QF7 on 31st July it was delayed almost 6 hours departing SYD due to late arrival from JNB due to a mechanical issue the day before. Arriving in DFW after 9pm instead of 3ish saw lots miss connecting flights. There was a notice board with envelopes pinned to it with alternative flights and hotel details for those impacted - no staff in sight.

I was very glad I'd planned to spend the night at an airport hotel with a lunch time flight the next day, as 21 hour buffer gave peace of mind.

Hope all goes well for OP but in future I'd plan an extra day buffer where there is an unmissable event in play.

I'm not familiar with VCAT/NCAT but surely the tribunal has some authority to interpret laws? After all the Montreal Convention is a treaty and as such has no effect in Australia. What gives the treaty power is the fact that Parliament in Australia passed legislation that (mostly) conforms to what is spelled out in the treaty. So the Montreal Convention as a matter of law is a domestic piece of legislation. You can point to specific law on the books in Australia that enforces it and is something that at a minimum the courts can handle and possibly the tribunals as well (if they have the capacity to deal with the law, which I reckon they do).
Different courts and tribunals in Australia handle different levels of laws. Once you hit an international or Cth law for aviation you will likely find yourself moved out of the state bodies set up to facilitate ‘small claims’. The ones where you don’t normally need a lawyer and you can lodge your claim easily and cheaply and don’t need lawyers to represent you.

If you are not familiar, I’m not sure your blanket representations that you are - somewhat easily - covered by Montreal, or Eu261, are always going to be applicable, given the potential difficulty in getting them enforced.

It might be that a qantas tag flight SYD-HBA at the end of a codeshare with AY from HEL-SYD via SIN is covered by EU261. But it might also not. And it might cost you many thousands of dollars to bring that claim.

This isn't helped by the weather related delays at Sydney airport, which has been happening more frequently lately. Often closing 2 of the 3 runways.
I don't think that would appreciably affect the B787 fleet - those flights are never cancelled when Sydney airport is on single-runway operations, it's the domestic schedule that suffers. Yes there might be short holds of 30-45 minutes but if the schedule can't absorb those, that's indicative of the bigger problems.
