QF8 or should that be late? (Pilots arguing)

Re: Pilots stood down after dispute in coughpit

re arguments between pilots: please accept that I know that there are others here who have much more knowledge about this sort of stuff than I do. And they may or may not be able to add to this discussion
That said I'll recount a fascinating insight into Qantas procedures for communication between staff. It was at a meeting several years ago and a senior Qantas pilot spoke to us about how these communication procedures might be useful in other industries including the one in which I work.
There is (was?) a stepped series of questions/responses when one of the crew was concerned about something which they felt that their senior was missing.
The last step was something along the lines of "Captain I must formally request that you consider my concerns blah blah"
Apparently, according to this presentation, once the last step is reached BOTH parties are suspended because of failure, I guess on both sides, to resolve the issue beforehand.

It is not impossible that something like this happened on this flight.
Remember I admit I have no facts.

Re: Pilots stood down after dispute in coughpit

We were fortunate to be flying on QF8 the following day so weren't affected by the delays, but as an aside, I wasn't impressed with DFW when coming off QF7 on the 4th of August. The queue for immigration was extremely long and even though we were one of the first off the plane, it took close to an hour to get through, they seemed totally unprepared for the hundreds of waiting passengers, having perhaps only 6 counters open. I heard lots of people complaining about missing connections, so I wonder whether this was a one off or the norm?

Re: Pilots stood down after dispute in coughpit

Friend of mine was on this flight, and was quoted in the SMH today QF-cough Up: 'comedy of errors' after pilots clash.

She's highly critical of QF's ability to handle situations that arise in DFW. They happen from time to time... not the issue.

Apparently QF didn't want to talk to most passengers, keep them informed, etc, etc.

The only person who wanted to talk was the journalist

Re: Pilots stood down after dispute in coughpit

The handling of the delay aside, is there a reason this is being played out in the media? Who is leaking this information to the media? If it is the pilot union trying to make the airline look bad, all it does make the crew involve look bad.

There is an investigation taking place so why the story in the public domain?

I'll put money on it being QF PR who leaked...

Flaming news.com.au had a pic from 'flying high' accompany the story.

I've had "clearance Clarence" "what's your vector Victor" and "surely you can't be serious" stuck in my head all day :|

I'll be nice as Bronwyn Smith-Orme is your friend.....

"Flight from hell"
"The guy couldn't find my bag"
"Her father drove to Sydney Airport three times"

That's almost worthy of Today Tonight...

A flight from hell would be one with you have a real emergency landing or something a little more dramatic than a delay, another delay and then leaving....

As for her Father driving to the airport, wouldn't it make sense to check arrival times an hour or so before leaving.. If it was an older person who is not capable of using the internet, then ring another friend/family member or even Qantas itself to check the arrival time.

Understand that she and others were upset but far be it a flight from hell...

I have no idea whether it felt like "the flight from hell" or not.
I do know with the night's extra layover in Brisbane it was very long.

The point trying to be made is that QF just couldn't / wouldn't communicate with the passengers affected, and seemed to be very ill-prepared for a delay such as happened.

Would have thought every airport would have some standard contingency plans on hand, and some guidelines for keeping passengers informed.
