Aus sport teams will travel in Y - not enough J seats to fit the whole team.

With regards to celebs they might be upgrading themselves to J on all the pts they have from their corporate Y policy. Or maybe thats where all the Op Ups go??

I suspect 'J' is written into their contracts - but I don't know for sure.

Yeah, I guess "real" celebrities probably get that kind of deal or have the power to write it into their contracts.

Certainly, as of 12 months ago the Sunrise cast and crew (including the newsreaders) flew Economy on short hops like SYD-MEL/BNE but I suspect this may have been something to do with the "contra" they received from Qantas each month and making it go as far as possible. Internationally, it's all J though. For the Disneyland special they did a couple of years ago, everyone from camera's, light's, make-up, production and talent flew Business Class. Domestically they fly Jetstar now so it's definitely whY. Getaway travel with Virgin Blue so they must be whY domestically too.

As for normal newsreaders like Heather Foord who did the 6pm news in BNE then flew to SYD every night for Today for three weeks, you would think they flew J as part of the arrangement with the network but I'm unsure on that one.

While this is a short flight, it is not too uncommon for people who have to get off a plane and go to work to get a J seat. Certainly it is about the only justification I have for getting a J seat. But from Perth that generally means a red-eye and I feel just as fried whatever class I fly in, so no red-eyes for me.

Just to add to the A330-300 part... I was pleasantly surprised on a flight SYD-PER mid last year to end up in 1A on an A330-300.

AVOD was working perfectly and got to catch up on some fav shows.

Much better than the ancient 747-300's that are mostly used. I think they must have been in getting an oil-change cause on the return flight got a 767 (ugh!) although in international 25J config.
