Together with Emirates, we continually review our codeshare services across the joint network.

To help consolidate passengers using a combination of Qantas and Emirates services between Sydney / Melbourne and London Heathrow, Qantas will adjust its distribution system. This will see Qantas passengers travelling on Qantas operated services to or from Dubai (QF1/2/9/10) without a stopover, remain on the same Qantas aircraft, rather than changing aircraft in Dubai.

This change will appear in selling systems progressively for new bookings from 14 April 2014.

Customers with existing bookings to London Heathrow are not impacted by this change.

Actually, having read this again I think this is the voluntary change which has been reported by fellow posters. Whereby QF contact customers who are flying QF to or from DXB and then connecting to EK metal to LHR.

Offer for customers to change existing bookings
Customers who hold a booking from Sydney/Melbourne to London Heathrow with a Qantas marketed flight number (operated by Emirates) have the option to change their existing booking to travel on a Qantas operated service to London Heathrow, where it may better suit their travel plans. This would mean they would travel on the same Qantas A380 aircraft with the same flight number for all sectors of their journey between Sydney/Melbourne, Dubai and London.

On this occasion, there would be no additional cost to make this change.

Its two part, one part is the offer to come back to QF for those flying EK as the second leg with no penalty, the other is to give those looking at booking just the QF services if its through to LHR without a stopover.

Interesting piece in the AFR this morning. In short, a DFW exec met with Simon Hickey last week to lobby for the spare frame freed up by the QF9/10 retiming to be used for DFW.

I realise there's discussion that the A380 doesn't have the legs for DFW, but it does make me wonder whether the delay on announcing the new QF9/10 details has to do with a bigger announcement including DFW (or some other port).

Either way, I wish they'd announce something soon, so we can plan LHR travel accordingly.

What are loads like on 127/128 SYD HKG Services? They could move DFW to A380 and move to A330 on 127/128. When they don't have an A380 in heavy maintenance they could actually still operate 127/128 with an A380 up to 4 days a week, as well as daily DFW.

SYD-HKG has very good loads. Hands off the Asian and HKG services!

They have removed the F only lounge in HKG, like they have in SIN. Not sure whether I am reading too much into it...

I wouldn't read too much into that. There is already a world class F lounge provided by CX for QF F pax. as well as OWE and other OW F pax

How much do 'reduced load' operations for either B744 or A380s hoe into what one (optimistically) assumes is an airlines's profit.

For the purposes of the argument, I assume that every seat is occupied if a (in theory) non-reduced load, and same under what can be occupied with a reduced load. I also assume acceptable (from the airline's point of view) yields, and good demand for air cargo space.

Wish Qantas would get organised - booked on this in December and want to organise a connecting flight from LHR.

In fairness to QF, it has probably given about 210 days' notice - not as far as bookings are open until but pretty good nonetheless given that these flights may be making losses at present on an annualised basis.

I completely disagree. As far as I'm concerned I haven't had any communication from QF about any retiming.

+ 1 especially impacts on LHR-MEL-BNE passengers which is the routing they insist you take for award bookings

Saying that there will be a change, but not saying what that change is, is not giving notice.

Well it is giving notice, even if it's non-specific. It is still on public record (it was QF not the media who made the announcement).

What QF hasn't done is contact individuals as the impact of the change hasn't been confirmed yet. Once set in stone they are generally pretty good at informing customers of any changes - how many of you have received texts/emails over a 5 minute change.
