QFd got offered to do OLCI: then after going through, "Check in at the airport"

At ADL QFd it's all DIY now.
Just 2 columns pillar with computer hidden in it.
Plus the single slot desk.
You are supposed to print out your hold bag rag and put it on handle and use their tray to put it into hole slot in wall upstairs.
Got into lounge ok.
It's been like that for over 10 years now. The only thing that has recently changed, is the bat tag kiosks, they now only print bag tags.

Can someone write a nice letter to VH @ QF saying (we want printing of BP to be brought back at our domestic QF terminals););).
My English is too waffly.

You can ask at the lounge, or gate (though probably not appreciated by busy agents) or manned check in desk, or roving agent (via the terminals in the check in area).

... is what they'd say.

Have you tried? It's generally like pulling teeth.
lounge but only once tbh. I'd prefer to be able to print as it used to be, but I've moved on and just use the app.

I agree, it's not something staff want to do, or should HAVE to do - but it's also a result of QF's decision to remove the ability for self serve (and I'll refer back to the appropriate thread on THAT discussion :) ).

I get the impression they are told not to provide BPs if they can help it.

But if you or I/me in this case did app OLCI but get message to collect BP at airport for QFd flights, we have to front the counter and provide photo ID to get BP.
If you did OLCI and get message and think, hmm, will try website check in, the sane message will come up.
If QF really wants us to do OLCI or before airport check in, there should not be that message come up, ie collect BP at airport.
---
Granted tho, I didn't use my QTMC card at gate.
Maybe that would have worked.

yes, using FF# barcode (also in the app) would work at the gate.

As for your situation, this is pretty rare to actually occur imo. Did you ever find out what the issue was? It wasn't immediately clear to me what the problem was that caused it from earlier posts. I've only had that happen to me once on domestic flights in - hundreds of them - and that was because some fool accidently said he had dangerous goods in the declaration (half asleep lol). Otherwise, everything has worked like clockwork and without fuss.

The numbers of people needing manual intervention like this would probably be really low (including the people who really ARE checking dangerous goods! :) ). And, it was no issue for the roving staff in the check in area to deal with it with a smile (perhaps my sheepish look of "I know what I did wrong can you help?" did the trick). Yes, you had to go to the counter, but you were able to because there was a staffed position and the problem was resolved.

I've made it clear many times before my view that the removal of self service BP printing is a bad decision by QF and I would much prefer to have it (I did enjoy printing on VA recently and had a hint of nostalgia lol) so I'm not defending them at all, but the reality is that the vast majority of pax use the systems just fine one way or another day after day.

Didn't want to prod so left it at that.
Might give QFd another go in Mar.
If they won't print again, I might in future book direct PNR trips ADL Au to east coast and overnight then to NZ.
We will see how they deal with that!
Will have to present ID for linked int BP then.

So the message "to pick up BP at airport" will not arise for QFi Aust outgoing int flights, esp if linked PNR from ADL?
Thought that there was always a rule that passports had to be swiped through their keyboard slit for all outgoing int flights.
Note no more BP issueing machines at QF terminal, and now it's up to staff goodwill to print BP.
Hope staff vmcan still ptint BP if problems arise tho.
Got my OLCI BP for AirNZ but still had to swipe passport onto machine, and got printed BP.
***(On my flight Thu afternoon, AirNZ staff said passports still had to be read onto the machine even after OLCI.)))***
Anyway, problem solved for this past trip.
Guess we have to wait and see if others get same "problem" as mine in future.

That's NZ, no idea about their system.
QF will allow you to check-in for multiple international destinations. No, you do not need to re-swipe your passport. If you get a boarding pass, all checks are done and complete. It's really that simple.

I am reasonably confident in suggesting that the lack of being able to print a standard boarding pass from the new kiosks is due to two factors …

1, encourage customers to utilise the digital option
2, minimise wastage / costs of physical printed boarding passes … the actual materials would not be cheap, let alone the costs of maintaining the facility (printer functionality, restocking of bp printer, staff productivity costs)

I know that myself, I travel ex a QF dash 8 airport. So to check in baggage, I go to an actual counter, and they provide printed Qf boarding passes … however, upon my arrival at the gate to board, I’ve already got my phone in my hand, so why would I bother digging the printed BP out? Just another thing to worry about when travelling.

Do you need a boarding pass for domestic flights? I thought once you have checked in you can just tap your QFF card on the boarding pass scanner during boarding.
Wouldn't that be a slightly different thing? Showing your QFF card at the gate triggers the system to check your status on the flight (have you been ticketed, seated, checked in?) and then let you through if it all checks out. The paper slip produced at the gate acts effectively as a receipt of your check-in & seat allocation, very similar to the printed BP.

I have requested printed BP's multiple times on domestic flights both at a lounge and from the roaming agents on the landside / bag drop area. I do that routinely if I've purchased a flight for my child (or any other family member), checked them in on my app and they are flying without me --> they will need a copy of the BP.

I don't recall any of the agents ever pushing back on this.

Most likely the "no BP printatable capability at airport kiosks", was from upper up staff at QF.
Maybe even AJ himself, who knows.
There was a news article, that VH and AJ are just the same, "even though she has said sorry", but as many on here say, she is the same ideas as AJ.
And the staff at the airports know how important it is in some circumstances to have a paper BP.

I have used my QTMC to get to the plane at the gate, in the past, but that has always been when I able to do OLCI successfully.
Just this time, the system threw a "spanner in the works" by bring up "you are checked in" but please collect BP at the airport.
