I'm not sure if this is something longstanding I've just never known, whether it's something recent that I missed the memo on or if the QF website is being it's usual buggy self.

I was looking (in vain) for classic rewards on SYD-JNB any time early next year in J or F. Unsurprisingly nothing available on QF metal.

However there was a day where EK had availability - but with weird pricing. J classic reward is priced at 245,800 points while F is slightly cheaper at 227,500. Both have the classic reward red icon and both are the same EK415/EK765 flights.

F is priced of about what I'd expect for this route while J seems too expensive for a normal EK reward. I'm not inclined to book at these prices (plus $1816!!!), just curious as to what's going on...

Could it be that the J "include a flight in F or Y", and hence is the sum of both legs in their respective class, while the F is fully F, and priced as such?

I think you'd need to drill into that Business redemption a bit further. (which date was it).

It certainly looks high, maybe one of the sectors is in F or something

Likely F+J which are priced as one F + one J where as F all the way through may not be priced the same.

The $$$ tax component is standard EK high taxes these days.

The screenshot above is from 24 March 2025.

And yes the braintrust is right. Upon closer inspection that SYD-DXB is in F.

QF seem to have done away with the exclamation mark on the search results for mixed class bookings and have now just hidden the detail below when proceeding with a booking. Screen Shot 2024-05-13 at 21.22.29.png
Edit to add: if it tricked me as a seasoned CR booker, I suspect plenty of others will miss the alert too....

Oh that is rrally poor if they are burrying that even more. Gah!

Other carriers are much clearer about "Muxed Cabin" rewards. QF was not great, but at least the "!" Icon made it clear in the list view.

The UI philosophy at QF over the years is puzzling - from this, to not showing fare classes. It's ofuscation with no really good purpose imo.
