Here's a new twist to the once-formidable program. Two weeks in a row, seat allocation on classic award redemption boookings was the second-back row of the plane, and once in a centre seat - this for a several years Platinum member with a profile that requests "Forward window".
Finally an explanation today - "Your membership number was not in the booking".
Excuse me? Booked with Classic Awards redemption from aforementioned FF account, booking shows up in "Your Bookings" in the FF website. Please - give me a break. Please explain??
Sorry for the rant. But sorry Qantas - next time it will be "3 strikes and you're out" - especially now one is armed with ones complimentary reciprocal Virgin Aust platinum membership.

They have had a glitch with this over the past week - it has also been reported in a couple of other threads. Hopefully they sort it out soon, but if you have another booking coming up shortly it wouldn't hurt to call them and just get them to confirm that your FF number is attached to your booking :)

Had you selected a specific seat after booking? If so, did it change by the time you checked in?

Yes and Yes - 4F to 28E

Thanks for the advice Wingspan - that's a bit like the (other?) QF emplyee told me - like it's my fault if I don't phone them every time I have a booking and ask if my account is linked to the booking.
If it shows up in "Your Bookings" when I go into my FF account I'm going to assume it's linked.

But I guess you're right - assuming too much.

Thanks for that - my next flights are in two weeks (including a WP allocation to a PE seat in economy class to DFW) - I'll be keeping a close watch!

Serfty I heard that they load the fuel in Dallas overnight on the QF747 so the plane gets the biggest fuel load possible. Have you tried speaking Texan in Dallas?
Having your profile going missing.....gee that's not very nice so I hope it is a one in eight million event.

Since the aircraft arrives 2pm and departs 10pm, overnight is not an option.

Also Dallas can get quite warm/hot, so refueling as late as possible would be better (not to mention the issues surrounding towing a fully fuelled 747 around).

As for speaking Texan, I have enough issues them them comprehending my Oztralian!

Well Serfty that gives you 8 hours there I guess!
Actually Dallas was a place that you can get to like even if the locals pronounce all and oil as if they were the same words. Have you seen Larry Hagman as he put Dallas on the map for Aussies?
Lunch in Perth, early dinner in Dallas.....
How good is the trip to get to Dallas direct?
Has anyone else had their profile go missing as that would be pretty annoying for a QF WP?

I wish he didn't sometimes. Growing up with a last name of "Ewing" has resulted in many quips over the years. At least I didn't get J.R.
Ewing as my initials like my younger brother due to the way middle names are assigned in my family

Yes, I had the same problem (as mentioned in this thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....dvance-seat-selection-charge-award-33698.html) but as I always do advance seat selection I noticed and called the service desk. The problem was fixed on the spot.

Stuffh - lesson for the future - always check that your frequent flyer details are in the booking when you receive your PDF itinerary.

A normal booking will look like this:

A booking where I've had seating issues looked like this:

20111015-classic2.png

In both cases the booking was appearing in my account - but I've heard (correct me if I'm wrong) that there are several places in the GDS backend where the FF number needs to go and it hasn't made it to all of them.

Note: when approaching security screening, the sign may read "Passengers only beyond this point", but the Texan DFW employee will ask "Sir, Y'all fixin-ta fly?" and you should reply "yessir". See, its quite simple to communicate in Texan with an Oztrakian accent.

Sounds like something for QF Geeks to sort out as I have no idea why the number seems to detach itself from the pnr if it's showing up in 'my bookings'.

Maybe the Premium Desk or a supervisor in reservations can check the history of the Amadeus pnr so they can tell you the date & time when the seating went from 4F to 28E in order to ascertain at what stage of the booking it happened. AFAIK this is an issue that has been going on for awhile so I'm not sure what the glitch is that's happened in the last week.

The frequent flyer number must be there in the background because when you go to add a frequent flyer number (on a redemption booking) into Altea at checkin the field the ffn goes into is already populated with the ffn however it won't enter if the default says "redemption" but if "miles" is selected the ffn will go in the booking

I know sometimes even on non-redemption bookings the ffn will sometimes drop out if the passenger changes their flights ie when all previous flights are cancelled & new ones are booked. If at least one flight stayed the same the ffn would remain in the booking.

It's possible this could happen if you only had a single flight in a booking where you did a points upgrade to J as your original booking may have been eg H then when it's confirmed the day prior into U class it is esesentially a cancel & rebook situation & the ffn could detatch itself.

I know you shouldn't have to however it seems that Shauns advice is right on the money as to working out when you could have potential 'issues'.

Sorta on topic. But my works travel company never add my number, I have to do it at MMB. Do you think that affects Altea's valuation of me??

My experience is that it can sort of drop out. I've had a case where it didn't print on my BP, but the points did credit ok.It gived credence to the view that it exists in multiple places, and depending on where they look at a point in time, will depend on what services you can get (online).

Muppet I would add your ffn into the pnr as soon as you know your Amadeus booking ref, mainly because you can then allocate your seat. If you were to leave it until you got to the airport there may only be middle seats left to choose from as the system didn't know you were WP to theoretically 'reserve' one for you. Some people also have special meals requests attached to their profile which they wouldn't get unless the ffn was in the booking the day before travel in some instances.

More importantly, in the case of op-ups :p domestically if your WP ffn wasn't in the booking when DYOM actioned the regrades around 5 hours prior to departure it wouldn't take you into consideration as it wouldn't be known at that stage that you were WP.

Whether your ffn gets entered by the TA via their GDS or whether you enter it through the MMB portal on the QF web site makes no difference as to your valuation - the main thing is that your ffn is in the booking.

Yeah, I usually do as soon as it comes in.

Only ever got op-ups as NB and SG. Interesting to know the 5 hour thing though.

Computers are not always perfect!

There must have been a glitch this week. I made five bookings in quick succession and two failed to register my FFN. Even trying to force it through 'Add FFN' failed to cure it. When I called the WP line, I was told that the link was OK and could be seen at the QF end - but I couldn't see it. It's since come good.

Very annoying and extremely disappointing to say the least. Just as well it has not happened to me yet. I do not want to see it happen either.

I have made 8 return bookings in the last couple of weeks and no glitches to report and not a single soul in the front section of economy on 15/16 flights to accompany me either....

This is still happening, and it's getting very annoying.

I just went to do seat selection for Friday's flight and this is all I got to choose from:

Looks like I'll be calling the service desk again.
