QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Yes, I flagged this over in the other thread several months ago. Very important to have the min APIS in the system ASAP. From memory, just DOB should do it but might as well add the rest anyway.

DOB was already on the APIS when Hobart made the booking, I’ve added the rest so See what happens

Im hoping that I can get QF3 released at some point soon, fingers crossed

Requested economy CR, BNE to NTL saturday pm in Nov as WP. Expert Flyer says Y9 for that flight.
I tried 3 times, last week. Got Fiji every time. Always declined. Still have never had success requesteng a seat release in 5 years as WP.

A few rejections today for domestic business requests, showing D availability on ITA matrix (I'm not 100% convinced I was using ITA properly). Managed to get some changes into I though in the other direction.

Should I be concerned after requesting an award yesterday lunch and it not being ticketed yet?

Seems like a long time?

Just because you don't receive an email, doesn't mean it hasn't been ticketed.
Try putting the PNR here and see if there is an 081- ticket number:

In the past I've had no email at ~24 hours, checked the above and an e-ticket number was present.
Didn't worry about following up and the system sent the email about 24 hours later.

100% not ticketed - no points deducted/no ticket number etc.

Request was approved, wasn't put on hold but had some small talk before being told it's approved and we collected the rest of the details. I'll follow up tomorrow then.

I'm curious if QF have a time limit on reservations held in a ticketing state or if they don't for their own flights?

@henrus Was your ticket to/from the US? And did the agent get your DOB to add to your booking? If that's not added, it won't ticket.

I had to call the contact centre twice to get things sorted. interestingly had hobart both times and first agent got QF4 released. but with no email confirmation when I called again, Hobart agent 2 said Hobart agent 1 didn't set it up properly to ticket.

still don't have a formal email, but the RJ site now has a 081 ticket number and my amex has a pending change so I guess I keep waiting for points deduction

I’m P1, and got there through spending money I’d saved from not having European vacations in 2020 and 2021 on business class flights to Europe in 2022 using DSC flight credits from COVID era canceled flights. Plus a bit of other strategizing. And retained it easily in 2023 because of the 1800SC status support.

But I think there needs to be a bit of reality brought to bear. The effects of COVID on the airline industry’s capacity is still being felt. I don’t know what international flights are running at but I suspect maybe still only 80% of pre-COVID capacity. So #1, there are less seats available.

Next, lots of people have saved up lots of points and want to use them. So #2 there’s higher demand than pre-COVID

The airlines are trying to maximize profits, and demand and supply (as above) leads to high prices. Despite a large QF profit there’s still repair to the balance sheet required. So #3 a reluctance to convert as many revenue seats to CFR seats for P1s as perhaps previously.

There are still seats made available though. I’ve been to the US in February and Europe in August this year on CFR through seats being freed up through the team. And I’ve got a CFR to Europe, and back through the US, in July-September 2024. In addition I managed to also get flights to the US in April and Canada in September that I didn’t use in the end. So, the seats are definitely there.

I’d anticipate that CFRs will become more available over the next couple of years as supply continues to improve, the stock of FF points reduces and the pent up demand post COVID slackens. By then I’ll have dropped off P1 unfortunately, but hopefully Platinum should

be able to more easily secure seats by then.

Tokyo to Sydney, so no DOB should be needed?

I've had ex-Japan tickets take a couple of days in the past as I think they get ticketed by the Tokyo office.

I always get the old school text only e-tickets, rather than the PDF version, and these Japanese-style notifications when there's a flight change (the accept button in a square always make me chuckle)

Hi,
I am looking at accessing reward business class seats from HND or NRT to BNE or SYD in August / September 2024.
Maybe its too early yet and i am not sure exactly what date range will suit but
I can find "business sale" fares but little or no I class buckets - is this the normal experience ?
I am wondering if posters have encountered this situation and been able to score "U" seats on this situation.
Does the sale fare trump low I seats?

QF26 HND-SYD has I class space every day from mid August to end September, except for 14 Sep.

What day can you see Business Sale fares on the QF site but no I class in EF?

Just call and request the seats anyway... there's no harm in asking.

Thanks for your prompt response.
I guess past successful requests have all been a combination of "I" 9 and presence of a business sale fare.
I have never tried to ring for a seat release unless there was I9 and business fare sale availability.
I guess I have been spooked by the lower number of I class seats in my post above - for example, HND-SYD 31-08 -24 with I4 and biz sale present or NRT-BNE QF 62 biz sale present and I2 .
Looks like I have not rang as aggressively enough in the past.

Neither are a hard requirement.
