Hi everyone,

I work for the government and all of our travel is managed through Qantas Business Travel (QBT). In a few weeks I will be flying from PEN-KUL-PER with Malaysia Airlines booked through QBT.

My two questions are:

1. How do I find out how many points I will earn (I will be in a full fare Y seat). I have tried to find something on the one world site that calculates how many one world miles it is for a given itinery, but after my cursary search couldn't find anything. and on the table at the bottom of this page It seems a little misleading. It seems as though between Malaysia and Australia you will only get 25% points. Does this make sense?

2. How do I go about upgrading myself? will this just have the normal options for upgrading on my QFF account page?

Thanks for your help guys,

Cheers,

Assuming you are booked in a full Y fare bucket
PEN-KUL you will earn ~201pts and 20SC
KUL-PER you will earn ~640pts (25% of 2563 miles) and 50SC

You cannot upgrade as it is not a Qantas operated flight.

Hey thanks heaps for your help. Where did you actually go to get this information?

Also I guess a bit of a follow on question. I will be a few days short of requalifying for my QFF silver. A few hours ago I asked if they could give me a short extension to get the required points (50). I haven't heard anything back yet (it's the middle of the night AEST) but in your experience is this the sort of thing they might do for their members?

Cheers,

You can look up the miles for routes at Great Circle Mapper (it is not exact, but roughly correct). Then correlate the sectors to the Status Credit table on the QF website, and the miles earning table for Malaysian for the appropriate class and sector (as MH's earn table is divided by route AND class).

Regarding extension if you don't ask you will never know, but it is probably considered unlikely that Qantas would be forgiving in this situation. You never know though...(sorry I can't give an exact answer)

THanks again for your help. I will bookmark that site.

I will let you know how I go hearing back from Qantas

Or just use the explorer validator on Mileage Monkey with the ignore errors checkbox ticked.

MileageMonkey

It does not show full Y on the assumption no one travels Y internationally given its dearer than J.

Not sure you will receive points as most government travel arrangements do not allow FF points to be earned but do allow SCs.

They are unlikely to extend your year but they might give you a complimentary requalification. It depends on a number of factors such as your average SCs over the past few years.

love_the_life,
Unfortunately, yes, with government travel we do not get the QFF points, just the status points (bummer).

Markis10,
Thanks for that website, It will be useful in the future.

I haven't heard anything back from Qantas about a short extension yet. I am generally in the upper end of silver (nothing like the rest of the guys here), just short of gold most years. In a totally unrelated question, I have been a QFF member for 2-3 years and have never, not once been given a double SC promotion... What's the chop with that, what do I have to do to get one of those?

Cheers,

Who gets DSC offers is one of the Great Mysteries of life. Not even the collective wisdom of AFF members have been able to crack the code (but if they have, they haven't told me :) ). It seems entirely random wrt status, where you are sitting with requal, etc etc.

I'm pretty sure its not random, but there doesn't seem to be anything to do to predict who might get one at any given time.

You could always offer Red Roo a large brown paper bag of course, but even then I'm dubious.

Yes, one of life's great mysteries but make sure you have ticked the box to receive offers in your QFF profile, otherwise it will be like waiting for Godot - never arriving. :)

Welcome to the club / shed of the QFF rejects !

Didn't you notice how ecstatic some of us became upon receiving the DSC offer?

There must be a rational reason for that irrational event, but none of us has a clue (maybe we could hire the new Chinese super-computer for a day to crack the formula).

For the record [and Red Roo's attention :)], I am yet to enter the DSC club.

What's the rule regarding said government fares and crediting to other OW programs?

As long as you don't get points, no problems. Which effectively rules out any non-Australian FF programs unless you need the sectors.

So say for AA you earn segments and miles (RDMs, EQMs) but not points (EQPs)?
Would be interested to see the T&Cs.. I'm guessing many people in that situation wouldn't even consider, or even know about, crediting to another OW program.

Really? Admittedly, you can generally not see the full Y fare on QF web site, but I recently had a quote for full fare Y BNE-HKG-BNE and it was approx $2700, which is significantly less than J. This is my one and only reference, so happy to be corrected :)

So I double checked to see, but I do have all the right boxes checked. It's a bit of a shame, I am starting to get a good bundle or QFF ponits that I am waiting to use when I one day get DSC.... Maybe I will be waiting a while.
