A quick question out there, as I’m relatively new to QFF status (last business I worked for used VA more often so my experience is more with Velocity). Been quickly rising through the status points this last year, but realised I’m going to be annoyingly close to the magic 700 to get to Gold before the end of my membership year - 15 short in fact. Bad timing with my upcoming work fights!

(This includes doing that whole green tier thing to milk a few extra SC’s).

Is there any precedence for QFF to go “near enough/good enough” in cases like that or is it a hard line in the sand? I know I got a pass by one year with VA, but that’s VA so…

Would rather not have to spend any more time in airports than I have to considering… *gestures vaguely at the state of airports* but can understand that’s probably the name of the game here.

I am also unlikely to hit it again, but knew that one day I would need to clip my own wings and focus on home life, so I've been psyching myself up for a while to lose it. Might have to do a jaunt to SIN and back before my year ends just to enjoy the F lounge(s) a final time.
As luck would have it I did MEL F lounge in May and SYD F lounge next month.

Going forward with Lifetime Gold may try to maintain Virgin Gold with 2 trips to Thailand each year with wife and daughter as schedules out of BNE much better than Qantas.

As like most of us over the past two years, we had a bit of spare time. From most of my friends, it seemed to be drinking (!!!), but I did a bit of playing around with Pt Lifetime status. I do a bit of simulating modelling in my job, on what furnaces do, but I wanted to see how much it would cost and what time is taken, to gain Pt LTS. Over the years, there have been numerous threads on the 75,000 SC to reach that mark. In my opinion, it is just another insult from QF to FF's who have stayed loyal to them, but that's another story. So, summary of my "very small" model;

Currently, I'm just over 56,600 SC's so I still have around 18,400 to get;

Therefore to regain Pt @ 1,200 /y = 15.3 years. Being at the ripe age of 60 will reach it around October 2037.

So for travelling, 4 scenarios;

Airline QF MH UL QF
Leg MEL > SYD ow Internal ow MEL > LHR Rtn MEL > LHR Rtn
Class Dis Y J J J
Cost $241 $167 $7,500 $11,300
SC earned 10 40 360 590

$ per SC $24.10 $4.18 $20.83 $19.15

Cost of LT Pt $442,115 $76,590 $382,188 $351,353

Trips 1,840 459 51 31

Hours per trip 3 4 60 56
(at the airport, flying, etc)

Days needed 229 76 127 73

Now, it's a "static" balance, just a snapshot in time and before I get "what about DSC's, discounts, different routes, etc," this model has far more variables than a blast furnace (least I know the metallurgical reactions there), but about 100th the size. It just gave me a perspective of what it would take to do it.

So the irony is that you are still Pt if you chase after the LT award. For me, I would get it as I drop dead at 76! And there is still a fair bit of travel and costs ahead. Could not imagine a whole year flying back and forth Mel > Syd to make it, or going into the wife telling her I just spent a fair portion of our super to get LT Pt!

The stupid things we did in lock-down!!!!!!!!
